Email Marketing Question

Hello everyone, this is pretty much my first year in internet marketing. Things are going great and I'm learning new things daily especially from this forum. I'd like to ask how often do you send out emails to your list? Would you recommend a follow up message or a broadcast message? Please tell me why you've chosen so as well.

Thanks!

After they enter their information on the subscribe form on your site, a message should be sent for them to double opt-in. After the opt-in I normally have another message sent to them thanking them for opting in and giving them more details about my product or service. Then after that it is all up to you and would vary from site to site.

Thanks for your answer. Double opt-in is definitely good. Good quality leads come from that process. Seems like a good and simple strategy you use there. Thanks!

I wouldn't ever suggest building without a double optin list normally, you can if you want but something always seems to come back and bite me when I don't have the list double optin.

In most 'mature' markets I would recommend against followups, as they have been done to death. I'd go for regular broadcasts over a series of followups.

Thanks! I've been wondering actually which one is better. I'll be hitting up broadcasts asap then. Thanks for your answer!

I've got many lists and the frequency that I send the
e-mails depends upon the specific list and how the
subscriber behaves on that particular list.

For example, if someone clicks on more links or joins
    more sub-lists, then they'll receive more e-mails
because they've demonstrated - by their behavior -
that they're more interested in hearing from me.

    Regarding follow-up autoresponders and broadcasts
    I recommend using BOTH.

Autoresponders and broadcast messages each have
their own advantages and disadvantages and it really
depends on the objective for the particular e-mail I
    want to send.

However, usually I use ONLY an autoresponder series
for the first 30-days or so because I want to deliver
a well-structured presentation to the new subscriber.

Only after the first month will I then use broadcasts
    and autoresponder follow-ups together.

Like Shaun pointed out you really want to use both.

At the beginning of any relationship you talk more.
It's new and fresh and you seem more interesting
to each other. After the early days then you talk
less and only when it is necessary. (Good thing my
    wife doesn't visit this forum.)

So early on you use mainly scheduled messages and later
on you shift gears to broadcast.

The main advantage of the scheduled messages is that
you have less things to manage after they are
written and set up. The disadvantage is that you
    lack "now-ness"

Broadcast messages you must manually send out but
you gain recency and accurate timing.

So pretty much how romantic relationships are

The main thing I hate with email marketing is when I subscribe to find out more, but I continue to get multiple emails a day for over a year. It's great to keep people involved, but you don't want to annoy them

Awesome Ray, loved your answer. Love the way you pointed out the difference of scheduled messages and broadcast messages. It's definitely all about the relationship building. People would want to hear recent news from us. Thanks for your answer!

It of course depends on your niche, but in most niches people don't know about internet marketing and about all your competition.

I think an autoresponder is an important tool because it lets you bring everyone up to the same level, you know what they have learned and can tailor sales pitches to that.

It also lets you automate things and makes your business a lot easier.

In addition you can use broadcast messages as a way to tell all your prospects about upcoming events or happenings.

In other words I use an autoresponder to deliver content and build up promotions and broadcast messages to let everyone know about news.

It depends on the niche and what kind of relationship you want with them but I like to keep things a bit topical if I can, talking about something going on right now and how it relates to your message can make for a more interesting read.

As long as that doesn't mean multiple times a day, you should do fine

Yeap! I know how it feels to get emailed by the same person multiple times a day. We would only gain unsubscribers this way lol I was thinking at least 3-5x a week would be good.

Do you have a blog or some form of social media presence where you can actually form relationships with the people on your email list?

Telling people that you have a new blog post is a great way to engange with your list and get yourself seen as the expert in a specific niche. Become friends with your list and good things will happen.

A friend recommending a product is always better than a random stranger trying to sell you something.

So in summary mail when you have something worthwhile to say, either great content or a product that you belive will help your list. If you deliver crap content or promote products purely on the affiliate return then you'll lose the list faster than you created it.

      Hello Andrew,

Yes, I'm very active on social media. I have a fan page, personal fb profile, twitter, linkedin, youtube and google+. I also have a personal blog. yes, I agree with you. Sharing our latest blog content is a great way to engage our list. That's exactly what I'm going to do. Yes, people like to buy from real people. Someone they know and trust. Doing what you've said I believe will do that for me. I always believe value is the key. So just like you said about crap content and over promotion, that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for more relationships not a list of angry people. You made a great point there. Thanks for your answer!

Hi thezafragroup im happy to here that your making progress online
Well i know that an autoresponder is by far the most important tool any marketer or entrepreneur can have. This is what builds a list and forms a solid relationship with people. Basically, an autoresponder automates every aspect of your email marketing campaigns. Everything from collection and storage and management of contacts, thank-you web page redirects,to the automated emails, subscriptions, email and reporting.Alright, you have a list that is growing, now you want to automate this list. To automate a mailing list and the create an "auto-pilot" stream of income, you need to master your follow-up sequence.
A follow-up sequence allows you to automatically send emails out on specific day increments after someone signs up to your list. To make this a bit more clear, we will give you an example.
The first step is obviously to get someone to sign-up to your mailing list. After they sign-up, you typically want to send them an instant email. This email will usually include an introduction along with the offer that you were giving away for signing-up to your list.A broadcast email differs from a follow-up email in that it is a "one time" email. Broadcast emails are typically utilised by email marketers when they want to get important information out there, want to cover a promotion, or they want to just connect with their list to let them know that they exist. hoped i helped

      Hey Jason,

Appreciate the answer buddy. You've really cleared a lot of things out for me and you have pointed out the difference between the follow up email and the broadcast emails which I still didn't understand fully. Now I do. Thanks a lot!

      Thank you for your answer!
