How many hours before you started to make money?

I was recently laid off and am spending much of my time driving and searching for work. I am also trying to get a grasp on the basics of internet marketing. I am wondering, how many hours per day I should allocate to my IM study?

I know there is not a single answer or time frame, but how many hours per day for how long do you think should be enough (if the right methods are studied and applied)?

Thanks, just trying to get a grasp on things here.

There's too many variables to consider.

It depends what you study, what you deem to be a "right method" and how you execute the method.

You'll know how much time and effort you'll need to put in according to your results as you progress.

      Exactly what webcore said.

I really depends on what you want to do, and every aspect in Internet marketing needs a slight different approach, so this could also effect the time you want to invest.

Plus I don't think you should think in hours. Think in workdays, hate to say 9 - 5, but think in those terms. It took me 2 - 3 months to close my first clickbank sale a few years back. Others do it on their first day, so I think you can't really get a straight spoonfed answer on this one.

I echo the above poster in that too many variables exist to even approximate something like this. Just keep at it diligently and ask questions here when you get stuck and you'll progress.

Good luck to you and your job search.

You should allocate EVERY spare hour you have until it makes up for the job you lost. If you want it to replace that 8 hour / day job then it only makes sense that a MINIMUM of 8 hours be spent every day working on it. You will run through a lot that you don't understand and do wrong, just like at a normal job. But you will eventually get the hang of it if you invest the time.

As other have suggested, it depends on many different factors. Here is what i did

I was in a similar situation about 2-3 years ago. Here is what I did to start making around $5000 a month in about a year or so:

I was out of job for 6 months. So, I had lots of free time. I started learning about blogging and I basically devoted all my time to it, since I didn't have any job to go to.

Just read and learn as much as you can. Devote at least 8 hours a day. Think of it as if you are going to work.

Be careful not to get burned out though.

I treat my IM like a part time job. I have hours that I work each day and take off the weekends. I find it every important to stick to a schedule. After all, it is a job.

  • I do IM full time now as it is my career. I have made money in the past just spending a few hours a week on it though. I say as much time as you can, depends on how much you want this.

I would dedicated however long it takes to find a method/strategy you have confidence in. Beware of the schemes out there and if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Here is a list of a few threads that may help you with my favorite method, Article Syndication:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...g-success.html

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...explained.html

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-fan-page.html

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...mith-myob.html

There are many methods that work in this forum and it is best to find one that you are confident in. Work as much as you can to get a website/blog up and build traffic to it.

It could take a week before you see some sort of an income or a year, depending on how hard you work and how well you follow the method. You don't have to reinvent the wheel and you don't have to spend any money on anything other than a hosting account, domain name, and maybe a bit of promotions here and there.

Depends which method you want to choose to earn money??

If U plan to learn seo, it can take from a few days to months to experiment and learn about seo.
If you wanna earn through affiliates [clickbank and amazon] , you can learn from a couple of books and in a few hours U will be up and running!!

You have to study internet marketing for numerous hours until you’ll really learn it. If we will compare internet marketing to other fields more complicated, we will conclude that it is quite simple, but the truth is that internet marketing is quite complex.

You should learn how to create Squidoo lenses for free and promote various Amazon, eBay and other products through your lenses so that you may learn how the internet works without spending anything. If I knew how to create lenses from the beginning of my adventures I wouldn’t spend so much online.

This is not my field, but I even created a lens teaching everyone everything I learned about Squidoo in order to get traffic from internet marketing and send it to my field. I teach you how to easily create business lenses and get traffic. Here it is:

    http://www.squidoo.com/passive-income-website-traffic-squidoo-beginners-guide

You should also create a Blogger blog for free and promote your lenses and various affiliate products this way too. Use Rapbank for finding products and Clickbank. Rapbank pays you through Paypal, while Clickbank pays you with checks that delay arriving.

However, be aware that these free platforms have numerous rules and you may lose your work at any time. I had a problem with one of my lenses because the articles I posted were also submitted to many other places online and Squidoo considers them duplicate content because of the Panda, even though I'm the author. Squidoo has many very irritating rules that you must learn, and they keep changing these rules (!) However, if you’ll create quality lenses you will make some money and learn how the internet works. I'm using Squidoo as a free traffic generating method, but it is also a passive income.

I lost 4 blogger blogs in 2009 because a hacker infected them with malware and Nobody helped me recuperate them. Blogger belongs to Google, what means a real chaos.

So, use these free platforms with caution, backup all the information you’ll post there because you may lose your work, and study internet marketing into practice while you’ll be trying to promote various affiliate products thanks to these free tools.

Never create your own product if you don’t know what you are doing. Only when you’ll be an expert on internet marketing, should you create your own products. First of all, you have to find buyers. You have to make a big research and understand your market. So, be a good student. Spend many hours reading various posts at this forum, and learning everything you can.

I started making money by selling my own ebooks from the beginning, but the problem is that these sales are too instable. Selling products online is a game, an art, and it depends on knowledge and many tools, besides many JV partners. You need A Lot of traffic, what is very Hard to get… you have too many competitors online.

Be very patient, be a very good student, learn how to make money by using free platforms, and only when you’ll be an expert on internet marketing, create your own website, blog, and products, with the money you’ll make by using free platforms, without spending anything from your pocket.

This is what I would do if I was beginning again today. I did the opposite of what I’m teaching you, and this is why I spend a lot of money in the beginning, without knowing what I was doing… This is a Big mistake that you must avoid.

Don’t spend a cent if you don’t have a plan. You must have a smart business plan if you want to succeed. If you’ll act without following a plan, you’ll arrive nowhere. Selling is quite hard, you have to surpass numerous competitors, you have to be professional… you have to do a million things it you want to succeed. So, if you won’t have a plan and you don’t know what you are doing, you are only going to spend money and time, without having the positive results you desire. You must be very well organized if you want to succeed.

Only allocate as many hours as you need in order to feel comfortable that you have a direction to go in. Then make sure you get going!

The important thing is that you don't get analysis paralysis and sit, study forever, and not actually apply the things you learn to make money. There are a bunch of ways to make money online. My weapon of choice is SEO, but you could offer services for things you're good at; you could write for people, design graphics, or do whatever else you're interested in.

I agree with the person a little further up who recommended setting fixed hours for your IM activities - it really helped me get going and focused in the beginning. Treat it with the mentality of a regular job, and keep with it.

    Good luck!

You can do that but don't use it to justify not doing a lot of work. You can't tell yourself that you're unsure so you just aren't going to do anything that day.

There is no minimum at all, as many as you can possibly stand to spend. Then, push yourself harder and learn even more. If you are a total genius and lucky as hell you could have a million dollars by Christmas, if you work really hard and choose the right path you might be making $50/month on Adsense ads by then. This is hard work and money doesn't fall out of the sky.

It really depends on how badly you really want it but don't make the mistake of thinking that working online is easier or any different from working offline. The same work ethics (if not more) will need to be applied.

First step is to be prepared for many long and testing times. If you are ready and willing then you stand a chance.

You need a clear goal but you would be best choosing what you know, what you are good at and how your attributes could be a benefit to others (the buyer).

Keep it simple, don't rush things and always - on every single occasion - believe in yourself. A large part of being a success online is self-belief...as it is in any other walk of life.

    Good luck!

That is some of the best advice you will ever get when it comes to making money online. You have to know exactly what you're wanting to do, how other people will benefit from it, and how you will reach them.

Thank you, Chase, for your kind reply.

You just added even more sense by saying, "You have to know exactly what you're wanting to do, how other people will benefit from it, and how you will reach them."

        Wise words indeed.
