Who is the FASTEST Wordpress Blog Webhosting Provider?

Guys, I've been struggling my *** off to find a proper review, since I'm in the whole IM business just like 99% of you, I find it hard to trust any review, ESPECIALLY web hosting reviews, so, WF here I am.

I've been at Hostgator before, I'm now at Fatcow and not happy with them to say the least. In the last 3 weeks the servers went down TWICE, once for 2 days! My one KW dropped from Google page one to page 50+ (it's back on page 2 now after much linkjuice)

My site's loading speed SUCKS all of a sudden, I've deleted 70% of my plugins, removed Javascript, etc. (even tried CloudFlare) but nothing helps.

Could any of you PLEASE provide me with an honest opinion for a good webhost to move my business to? I need a FAST one, not a cheap one. Faster the better.

What's your experience with web hosts? Who is fastest?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

StableHost has been great for me, and I'm ranked on the first page of some very competitive niches.

Check out reviews for all different companies at webhostingtalk forum.

Thank you Kevin, I'll have a look at that forum. I'm starting to get quite a lot more visitors each month and I don't think Fatcow can cope with this as it's been quite an increase over the last 2 months and now I'm starting to see that they're not as great as they appear.

In my experience the Wordpress platform can really run on any webhosting plan, it just really depends on the type of plan you have and the specs of the hosting plan. It was obviously slower when I was using a shared hosting plan compared to a vps (virtual private server). This applies to even a website or forum.

What I would suggest is read reviews on different hosting companies and find out which one is the best. Then visit lets say the top 3 and find the best VPS plans available and at the best price. Some even offer free setup and will provide you with a tech support package as well. If you are planning on running a website or wordpress site for blogging and plan on visitors leaving reviews and other great features, I would stick with a VPS and not a shared plan because you can keep upgrading a VPS without very little change to the configuration.

I still do quite well with HostGator and I cannot remember the last time my server went down with them. As long as your traffic is less than 300 page loads per hour you will be fine with their shared hosting, but if you are getting more than that an upgrade (which fatcow does not offer) will be necessary.

I have written many reviews for a client of mine on hosting and in my honest opinion I would either go with HostGator or HostMonster. I used to recommend BlueHost as well, but they are currently going through some growing pains and the service is not quite as good as it once was.

I've been with Hostgator for the last 6 years with no issues at all, I think their hosting services are excellent.

Just out of interest, are you using the WP-Super-Cache or equivalent Wordpress plugins? Using those sped my site up considerably!

I've been with Hostgator for years and love it, but a friend told me just the other day that for sheer speed, you should look for hosting companies running Lite Speed servers.

I agree with Annie. When I switched to CrocWeb hosting, which uses the newer Litespeed servers as opposed to Apache, I experienced a noticeable boost in speed.

I believe this as well. Hostgator was taking about 12 seconds to load my wordpress sites until I added the WS Super Cache plugin. Cut the load time in about half. Some themes are slower to load as well, but try that plugin.

This question seems to come up a lot on the forum. My vote always goes to Hostgator. I've tried a bunch of hosts and they all sucked. Especially, but not limited to, Godaddy and 1 & 1. I'll go ahead and add a disclaimer here because I'm sure I'm going to sign up with their affiliate program sometime in the near future. But its only because they offer a service that I can actually vouch for and use everyday.

With that out of the way, I also agree with others who suggest upgrading to VPS. You will definitely notice a difference. Plus there are so many advantages including root access for unlimited domains (say, if you wanted to run several WP multisite installations), you can easily set up some reseller hosting if you wanted to charge local offline clients and mobile sites.

You also psychologically feel more businesslike and professional when you move up to VPS. I'm really more of a create minded person and really tech savvy, but the customer service at Hostgator has always been extremely friendly and helpful, especially when compared to the other crappy services I've dealt with.

Of course its a but more money. But you're really only talking about $20 bucks a month difference for a service which is actually the foundation of your virtual business.

Thanks for the link to the quick cache plugin, that's helped. My hosting is rubbish - I'm with Brainhost (yes I know, most people have never heard of them). I'm desperate for a faster host, so will be watching this thread with anticipation.

I can honestly say that Hostgator has proved time and time again to me, that it is one of the best.

In my experience of slow loading wordpress bloggs, it has usually been caused by the links on my sites to other websites that cause the problem. Not my hosting.

If you can afford it, go for a VPS (virtual dedicated server) rather than shared hosting; you can get one for less than 35$ a month. Also useful because you can host multiple websites.

I second this idea, but with the qualification that hosting on a VPS is a lot more work unless you use a managed VPS (and those often cost quite a bit more).

I use a $19.95 a month Linode VPS and absolutely love it. And the best part is I don't have to ask support to enable any features that I need. I just do it myself.

I've used all the following and none of them come close to the VPS:
Hostgator, Dreamhost, 1and1 (terrible), GoDaddy (horrible), Bluehost.

As for non vps hosts, I hear good things about Media Temple, but it isn't cheap.

I have accounts with Hostgator and Betterwebspace. The speed in in the wordpress editing area is much faster at betterwebspace. I recently moved my sites to one of their UK servers, which is faster still (although all the sites are due to go down for a few hours tonight whilst they move the servers to a new data centre).

The difference in the speed of reaction in the editing area is something I have noticed over a few years and is consistent across not only my own accounts by those of my clients too.

I use BlueWho and have had no issues. I also use Arvixe but they seem to be a lot slower. As some of the others have said, it does depend on which service you use with a VPS being better than shared and a dedicated server being the best.

Also on a shared server it depends on the serve load - which will change from minute to minute, so it can be difficult to tell.

Using caching plugins - such as WP-Supercache can help, and linking it to a service like Amazon S3 can substantially speed up delivery of your site.

TBH if I needed quicker load times I'd cache and use S3 - still cheaper than VPS or a dedicated server and *can* be quicker too

I've used Bluehost for probably 8-9 years now and have always been happy with them. I also use HostMySite.com, they are fast and their security updates and support are both superb. They're a little more expensive than Bluehost and similar hosts, but the biggest drawback is their hosting panel sucks. There's very little you can do for yourself. I mainly host there for the tight security.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the speed of a blog will depend on how many plugins you use.

I am not original, I also use Hostgator and have not had problems with them.

I also have a VPS account which I like and will be moving more of my sites there.

In terms of speeding up your blog, I would recommend ( as FreddyDoo mentioned) one of the cache plugins. They work great for me.

What I would do about webhosting reviews is read several of them and collect the list of 3-5 which are mentioned as top ranked. And then go and read more about those. This is how I would do it.

Good luck in solving your problems.

      Hi all,

I use HostTheName.com and they have been very reliable. I have experienced no down time on my site. Their support has always answered within 15 min or less they also have a chat feature and have helped out even when they really didn't have to. I would recommend them highly.

    Hi Ettienne,

it's also possible to host wordpress in the cloud which makes it highly scalable.

Google it, there are many infos on it:

WordPress in the Cloud with Amazon EC2 and the Microsoft Web Platform Article » SitePoint

and there also is an excellent WSO on this topic.

    Cheers,
    Rob
