Fast Easy Help Needed Please : Domain Name Issue

Please help

Hi Warriors...

I'm behind on a project, I need help with a domain question please.

1. Does dashes in a domain name hurt (or help) for seo key-worded domain names?
2. If I wanted a domain name like diamondrings.com and it's not available, does putting a word in front of it carry the same seo domain name weight? Like kingdiamondrings.com.

Thank you,
John

Dash -- not necessarily, depends how you promote it. Same answer for the 2nd one with a caveat -- google tends to favour domains without a word in front of it, unless yours is a very popular site in which case you can sometimes actually rank higher.

Behind it tends to rank slighty better than before.

Let's say, your keyword is "dieting"
      1. dieting1.com = OK
      2. dieting-1.com = OK (not really recommended)
      3. die-ting.com = BAD

Let's say, your keyword is "blue widget"
      1. bluewidget1.com = OK
      2. blue-widget.com = OK
      3. blue-widget1.com = OK (not really recommended)
      4. blue-widget-1.com = OK (not really recommended)
      5. blue-1-widget.com = OK (not really recommended)
      6. blue1widget.com = OK (not really recommended)
      7. bluewid-get.com = BAD
      8. blue1-widget.com = BAD

As soon as I get some additional feedback from you guys, I will register a new domain name.

    Anyone else please?

    Thanks,
    John

Since the "real" name you want is no longer available, I don't see how it could hurt to get one that includes it with as little extra verbiage as possible.

And since domain names are so affordable, I'd just get one (or maybe a couple that you can then test market).

Why not go for (for example): bestdiamondrings.com, diamond-rings.com and diamondringsonline.com or sometihng like that.

Put your site up on all of these, and bingo, you'll find out ;-)

And please report back here what you found!

      Elisabeth

P.S.: If you worry about hosting, I'd recommend getting a baby account at hostgator where you can host just about unlimited domain names for about 10 bucks a month.

    Thank you Elisabeth...

Actually I have my own server.

I have purchased two domain names and will see what happens.

    Thanks you again,
    John
