In there an increase in info product sales during the holidays?

Hello all,

I've been working on an instructional course for saxophone players. The product is an outgrowth of my saxophone website, and pretty much all of the people on the site are saxophone players.

I've been working with an extremely aggressive schedule to get it all done and launched by 12/14, but I'm concerned that in doing so I might have to rush past some very important marketing steps.

For those of you selling info products, do you notice an increase in sales during the holidays? I'm not sure if people buy each other info products as Christmas/Hannukah gifts. If there is an increase during the holidays, then I have to weigh the benefits of shipping earlier to meet the holidays vs shipping later but having a more solid launch plan.

Thanks so much!

Doron

Are you speaking in terms of saxophone players buying the product for themselves, as a gift, or finally asking for it as a gift for the holidays?

Is it a digital product or a physical product (like a book or set of DVD instructional videos)?

I would say that if I was wanting to better myself at the Saxophone I would just buy the guide myself, however, for someone who adding to their Xmas list it could easily go on there--especially if it was a physical product.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

It's a digital product (PDF w/5 hours of mp3 audio interviews). My hunch is that since pretty much all of the readers are sax players themselves, I don't think that they would go buy themselves this product a gift. I mean, they could have sax player friends who might enjoy it, but a digital info product just seems like an odd gift, especially if you don't run a retail/gift site.

Most people are busy buying "real" stuff at holiday times (gifts, food, alcohol, etc...) so there's usually a slump in digital product sales, except for ebooks (Kindles and other ereaders are given as gifts so there's usually an increase just after Christmas).

Yeah, that's what I would think. I'm getting the impression that the holidays are a bit of a non-factor in the timing of the release of my product and that I'd be better off running a better launch than trying to squeeze everything in in the next month and a half.

      Thanks!

  • I agree with Kristy.
Digital downloads tend to suffer around the Xmas period, as people tend to purchase goods they can actually touch and feel.

@Michael That makes a lot of sense - I for one am not planning on stuffing anyone's stocking with a digital info product.

@Chris I think you just made me rich, my friend!

I agree with what Kristy said above. We sell LOTS more Kindle books over the Holidays and we still sell plenty of other digital items but not as many.

When it comes to INFO products online, there is a decrease in sales over the few days holiday. Should you stop promoting on those times?

I don't think so. You should keep your advertising going at all times. The people who see your site on Christmas morning if they go online and decide not to buy, are more likely to buy it during the first few days of the new year.
