Analyzing Niche's - What's the best way?

Hi guys,

Simply I would like to have a niche website generating at least $50 a day. I know that low but I'm just learning the ropes.

I know picking the right niche is ultra important and this is where I need help. I've read some post about Micro Niche Finder and thought this was perfect but then read other posts on Market Samurai and why that was better and then another set of post on why those two are a waste money and that I'm better off paying an expert hundreds and in some cases thousands of dollars to 'give' me a niche. The expert price is way more than MS and MNF and i'm not going to learn anything if I'm just given a niche and don't know how they determined it to be profitable and worthwhile. I've got limited dollars as well as I would like to be able to build this skill so in time I can go beyond the $50 a day website to bigger things.

So calling on your expert help what advise/tools do you recommend to reach my goal.

any and all help appreciated

    Hello,

I was on the same road as you. I can give you the advice that your problems (yes you have or will have later) are not solved by "buying" keywords.

The most "keywords" you get will never make more then $2-$3 a day - from my expirience and I dont think it changed the last months/years. Also it depends on how you want to make $50/day with adsense or as affiliate -> two different shoes with mostly complete different approches.

So to make $50/day you will need hosting and "a few" domains.
To be successful you will have to learn the basics e.g. keyword research wordpress content ceation... herefore you dont really have to BUY anything. You can do all with free stuff your hands and mind -> but software does help.

I have both MNF and MS and some other tools they work good however I always do a "hand check" before going after a niche.

I "teach" my "students" to start small with something they like/do/a passion/thier job (what they can talk about for hours..) and adsense, learn the basics move on to cpa then affiliate marketing on the way they learn traffic sources, list building, SEO and so on....

Here on WF you can find some really good guides for researching keywords and building sites. Here is a adsense guide I thik it was call "Adsense Blueprint" was quite good maybe you should start with that.

Hope this helps you on your journey

    Hi Anna,

    I always start with the best categories for making money online;

    How to make money
    Work from home
    weight loss
    Dating
    Health and Beauty

Then I try to find products in these NICHES first that will pay me at least $35 or more with each sale.

Some of the things I look for are products you can sell year round and are not seasonal.

The other thing to keep in mind is to find products that can really only be found online. You can do an entire review site on treadmills but what most people will do is read your reviews, hop in their car and drive to Sears to buy the treadmill you just recommend.

So I like to find stuff you can only buy online and might be a little embarrassing to the person who wants the product. Hair loss products, how to pick up girls/guys, skin creams etc.

THEN do your keyword research to find out how much search there is for the products your looking for. You want to find buying keywords like review, scam, buy, does "x" product work. I like to find at least 700-1000 monthly exact search for the main product then another 1000 or so combined with the other buying type keywords. I also want to find products where the competition is low.

I'll start with the Free google keyword tool and then maybe drill down further with M/S.

Look, this is a lot of work but this is where most people go wrong. They do not put the research in and they fail.

    Hope this helps.

When I look for a niche, whether it's Adsense or other product, I look for a profitable, high paying product first and then use Market Samurai and Micro Niche Finder to build the keywords. Without a profitable product to promote, keywords are useless.

To find a niche I usually go to market places such as amazon and ebay to see what is popular. Another way to find great niches is to watch t.v. There are so many infomercials and ads with new products.

Once I find a product or niche to promote I go to the keyword tools. I don't currently use any paid keyword tools. I use either google's keyword tool or Market Samurai. The keyword portion of MS is free. For competition analysis I just look at the first page of google for my keyword and analyze the sites, or use the free version of Traffic Travis.

Hi, Anna. There are ways to find profitable niches without using paid resources. Using sites like Amazon to find the best-selling magazines is a good way to start out with a broad niche because companies put a lot of money into research and stuff to make sure they don't lose money. When it comes finding profitable niches, you should not only choose one that's profitable but one you have an interest in as well. Here are some examples:

    toys (great for upcoming holidays)

dating (no one wants to be alone, especially for the holidays)

    weight loss (global epidemic)

golf (expensive hobby, can promote products by certain players) - can be used in a variety of sports

quit smoking (hundreds of thousands of ppl looking to do this, especially for new year's resolutions)

learn Spanish (second most widely-used language in the world)

learn guitar (can cross promote actual guitars)

video games (can cross promote various game systems)

electronic gadgets (given recent events, Apple comes to mind)

    fashion

    jewelry

    shoes

pet care (training for pets like dogs, insurance,...)

    cooking

Get the idea? It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. After that, it's about breaking them down using something like the Google keyword tool and getting the right keywords, finding products to promote, building your site -- making sure to focus on product reviews and writing articles on related topics in your niche and getting ranked. Anything that could be given as a gift or something used for the preparation of the holidays is good right now.

    Good luck,
    Joey

I do exactly what sbucciarel suggests above. I ALWAYS find my product first, then go look for my keywords that I would build the site around.

Once I have a list of several possible keywords I go off and check the top ten in Google for each term and assess the strength of competition. If I am happy and feel I can beat top ten, I go after the keyword...

It's worked quite well for me!

You could also try Spyfu, it is a tool that has been around for quite a while and is very popular, especially among ppc marketers spending money on of Google Adwords. Spyfu helps to see which companies are buying ads for certain search terms, and even shows the exact ad copy that they are using. I hope this may helpful. Thanks.

Since you are still learning the ropes like you said, you don't have to spend money on keyword tools. Right now, you don't want to get stuck over analyzing anything at this stage of the game.

Amazon tells you which products are the top sellers in each category. Go through there and make a list of the ones that interest you (10 or so). Then go the the google keyword tool and see if there are viable keywords.

You want to make sure people are actually spending money in the niche before you enter it. There are several ways to do this. One is by checking how many advertisers are bidding for keywords in that niche by typing your keywords into spyfu. This also gives you some idea of what the keywords are worth (cpc). You can also see if there are books on the subject, or clickbank products selling in that niche. I have found that amazon products with a lot of customer reviews work out the best for me.

I'll give you an example- I didn't use any paid tools- feel free to steal, lol. I went over to amazon searching for a niche. I browsed the best sellers in the camera category and found that digital game cameras (the kind used for deer hunting) were selling pretty well. I entered the keywords into the google keyword tool to see if there were enough people searching. There were, and there were plenty of related keywords with good search volume and low competing pages. I jotted down the 10 best keywords and created a site around them. I put my adsense code up and it makes me $50 a month in adsense earnings.

My best advice is don't overcomplicate it and get a site up. It's the best way to learn in my opinion.

I like to look for lots of "competition" and a niche with a lot of info products. "competition" is a great indicator the niche is profitable and in demand. I have always found it way easier to sell in the biggest most "competitive" niches

It's always important to start with desperate buyers, people who really want to fix a problem rather than just searching for information - unless you're doing that for adsense.

here are some ideas of desperate niches:

People unhappy with their appearance - ie too much hair over the body, losing hair, acne, overweight, underweight, wanting to bulk up, ugly unhealthy teeth, chronic nail biters, etc

People who are in some kind of financial difficulty - they may need credit urgently but can’t find anyone to lend them money, they may be about to lose their home, they may be desperate for finance for some reason or other (there are even a lot of searches for financing for breast implants)

People who are wanting to improve their quality of life in some way - work less hours, have more money, start a home business, become a successful gambler, get more access to their children, get as much as possible in a divorce settlement, get a better job, have the car of their dreams, find their soulmate, bring back a lost love, etc

People are always willing to forego spending money on themselves in favour of their children or their pets - children may have a certain disease that they need help living with (ADD) or their dog may be a constant shoe chewer, etc, you get my drift!

    hope that helps

    all the best

Couldn't have said it better myself. Excellent advice.

Gotta have a desperate market first then find the product that is a solution to that desperation. Lots of products out there with no market and they quickly fail.

Google Insights and Google Trends can be used once you think you have an idea about what you want to do to check on niche.

Free tools like Google Keyword Tool can be used to find keywords. Most keyword tools use that as their input data.

Thank you everyone for your help. A couple of you mentioned that you use both M/S and MNF as well as other tools, can you tell me why you use those two as well as if you want your war chest of tools. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of tools its just a matter of knowing the right one.

amazing advice here... wish I saw (and understood the importance of) this page a year ago.

IMO a niche tool is not gonna help you.
you are better off using the methods listed above to decide on a niche. (I use some of the above methods).
it all clicked for me only about 3 months ago. (after 3 years). Now I have started to "get it".

Picking the niche has always been my number 1 problem. Now I go for the tried and true niches that always have lots of eager buyers, and I don't stray far. (see lists above).
(Selling real products is also good - like amazon)

For me the second big "aha" moment, was to create excellent content.

Then the 3rd is traffic. (loads of advice elsewhere on this site).

You can always get generic advices like start with your passion then find keywords with at least 5k GMSV and with low competition and get an exact domain name. I am doing it because I always read this kind of thing. Maybe to some marketers it is effective and to some it is not. I will give it a try first and hopefully can contribute a solid formula later if it is going to be successful.

Really useful information here for anyone just starting out.

I think people new to the IM scene (myself included) get too caught up looking for that 'magic' tool that will do everything for them without actually realising that tools only really speed up the process for you they don't actually do the brain work.
