Default IE, Chrome or FF, Which is Faster?

Hey gang,

In my never ending quest to speed up productivity, I ran a test
on the three main browsers on the market today, at least the
three I have used in the past. Sorry Mac users, I don't have a
way to test your choices.

Google Chrome
Mozilla FireFox
Internet Explorer

The purpose of the test was to determine the fastest of the
three browsers that, in theory, can help me get more done by
simply having to wait a little bit less between window loads
here.

This is in no way a scientific test and your results may vary,
but I used the following site to conduct my test:

site http://speedtest.net/

The results were a bit surprising!

Browser DL UL
FF 10688 969
Ch 8402 957
IE 8895 974

I "WAS" using Chrome, simply by switching to FireFox, in theory,
I should be able to cut out over 25% of my browsing load time.

What are your results?

I would suggest you check out Opera and run that test and it should blow all of them away. Unfortunately, they lack the plugins FF has, which I love.

Personally i use Opera And FireFox at the same time usually with lots of tabs open on each. I have noticed that Opera does seem quicker not sure weather its just an illusion as i have never tested it, But certainly worth trying.

I think that once you add plug-ins to firefox, it slows down pretty quickly. Chrome has been much faster for me, personally.

Hey Shawn,

I downloaded Opera and straight out of the box, here are my results:

Browser DL UL
FF 10688 969
Ch 8402 957
IE 8895 974
Opera 6088 468

Not sure if there are tweaks I should try, but at least from here, it
appears to be the slowest of the 4.

Hey Scot,

I find that interesting as out of all the browsers Opera clearly is the fastest on my computer. Maybe it likes me, I don't know.

Opera claimed it is the fastest browser for many years, and no other browser doubts it. So, I guess there is a reason for this, and at least > 50% probability, the claim is correct,

I use Opera, and I really like that the email client and browser are together.

I mostly use Opera because it is stable and fast.
It is incompatible with a lot of websites though so
you cannot get away with using it alone.

I've been using Flock (unstable) and Chrome too
(started having load time "issues" and displaying
my XSP sites badly) - but I'm most hopeful for
Chrome to eventually work well.

Of my experience Chrome appears to be faster
for the things I do than either FF3 or IE7.

In my experience Chrome seems to be the fastest, but with the lack of plugins I'll take FF3 over it any day...

Chrome is my preference. Works great and is simplistic. Very fast, and DOESN'T CRASH!! WOW!

Well, I never did a test or anything but my husband HATES my computer with Vista because it's slow. I found that it's quite a bit faster when using Firefox.

My favourite is FF, Chrome simply doesn't have all the features/plugins I need in a Browser.

Speedtest shows Firefox fastest, followed by IE and Chrome being slowest...although it certainly depends on routing and other factors as well, so I'm not sure how accurate the results really are. Interesting, since Chrome feels like the fastest for me.

Ok well I testing .. IE dont use, it's the devils browser..lol

Browser DL UL
NETSCAPE 7: 9882 574
SAFARI 3: 8983 568
FIREFOX 3: 8879 571

By the way this is not browser speed, this is your ISP and results may vary depending upon time of day, traffic on your isp and etc...

I've actually studied a lot of tests a few months back and back then FF and Chrome were side to side... but back then FF had a pretty bugged version so with the new 3.0.5 I believe it's the better choice, even if we don't consider all the powerful add-on features it has!

It's interesting to see how much the speeds vary throughout
the day.

Now I'm going and wasting my newly found time though

Does anyone really have a slow browser?

What constitutes slow or fast really?

In any of those 3 browsers listed, I click on links and they load up without a hitch.

Youtube plays well. Java applications do what they are supposed to.

I guess I don't have hang ups in any of the browsers to know if any are running slow.

it also depends on the settings of the browser. for example, a reset IE is faster than a long-used IE.

It will be interesting when Internet Explorer 10 comes out with Windows 7.
Windows 7 is supposed to be what Vista should have been.
I use forefox myself and it would be hard to give it up...but I might
try Chrome....

It doesn't make the slightest difference to me. It's not like I ever
sit there waiting for a page to load, bored, lonely and with
absolutely nothing better to do. With a bundle of tabs there are
always a few you can take care of if something does take awhile
to load.

I got really used to that when I was on dial up and tabbed browsing
came out. I often had over a hundred tabs loaded at a time and had
plenty to read while anything else was loading. Even if it's the very
first tab of the day and it takes awhile, there are always useful
things you can do with the time, like pouring a double brandy...

There are 10 types of people, those that understand binary and those that don't.

I've been a Firefox fan for years but have recently started to make more use of Chrome. There are some features that Chrome has that I really like, especially the ability to drag a tab out of the browser to become a new window.

But Chrome is also lacking in a number of features - it has no Print Preview and (I find this hilarious) it doesn't display Google Page Rank. And Firefox has some cool toolbars that are great for developing web pages.

Of course as Internet Marketers it is imperative that we try out our pages on every browser we can get our hands on, just to make sure they display properly. So I also use IE, Opera and Safari to make sure all is well. This is especially important if your page uses JavaScript, I've found a lot of JavaScript code that doesn't work correctly on the IE 8 Beta.

I honestly believe that if Chrome was faster I would STILL use firefox . Unless chrome would let me import ALL my FF plugins .
