Should You Add More Than One Type Of Monetization To An Affiliate Site?

Hey,

I have several Amazon affiliate sites and was wondering if it is recommended if I should add more than one type of monetization to it?

I want to add some Adsense blocks and maybe a Clickbank ad or two but was wondering if this would be bad?

I generally like to stick with one type of monitization for my sites. Some of my sites are strictly amazon, some adsense, and yet others cpa or clickbank products. I do have a couple that are mixed, but I rarely do this. I really do not want to distract the visitor away from my main monitization method. Your best bet would be to test, and see how adding additional offers affects your conversions.

    Hi,

As long as the products are related to your site, it is good to have multiple income streams to your site so you will not have count on just one. If your site is related to a high paying product, you will not go wrong with the additional affiliates.

This will depend on your niche though. I have used a few different methods based specifically on the niche.

I agree with Tom, you do not want to distract your viewers because you want them to be buyers.

    Hope this helps,

    Carol

Back when I was doing portal sites, I ditched the Adsense and generally focused solely on eBay and Amazon.

Depending upon my portal layout, sometimes I also focused attention on niche specific clickbank products like Golfing or Handbags.

Oh, those were indeed the days.....

You should test for yourself, and not assume that others' experience will be valid for your business.

It's going to vary, according to many different factors, but one of the most significant of those factors relates to the demographics of the traffic, and that's sometimes really hard to predict/analyze without testing.

I have content-rich information sites from which I build lists and promote (mostly) ClickBank products. I haven't tested AdSense on them, purely because I'm not willing to add it even if it increases my income, but if I weren't such a primadonna about my sites, I'd test that. My very strong guess is that it would make absolutely no sense at all for me to give people additional ways to leave my sites (that earn me pennies only), rather than staying there, but without testing, you never know for sure. I did once know someone here who told me that he had a ClickBank site, added AdSense to it, and found "as a result" that his ClickBank sales increased. (Second-hand information only - and I never saw the site, myself). The point is: if you don't test for yourself, you can't find out.

In my opinion the "ClickBank ad or two" would be a waste of space, because ClickBank products sell almost entirely by recommendations based on trust (i.e. more or less from list-building only). Now it's up to you to test it and prove me wrong. But design your test-parameters carefully, so that there's no mistaking the conclusions.

I agree with the people that say how it works for them may not be how it works for you.

Personally, I usually focus on 1 type of monetization. I build a lot of Halloween costume websites, and I've found that I do best when I use just the costume seller's links. I've had a few that are costumes and adsense, and they bring in a little money, but not that much in Adsense. And, I recently had 1 disabled from adsense because it came under review, and they decided I didn't provide enough content, so they took it out of the system. Since then, I've been considering going through, and either removing adsense totally, or adding content only pages, and adding the adsense blocks to them only.

Do keep in mind that the more ways for folks to leave your site, the lower you conversions can be. If you have a 10% clickthru right now to Amazon, adding an adsense block or clickbank product means less people are going to go to Amazon because there are more choices. So, there's a tradeoff.

I would generally recommend just the one type of monetization and make it all strongly relevant and linked to what you have on the blog.
