NY State Nexus Tax Issue

Hey all,

So here's my quick story;

I've been traveling for two years, I started in South America, and I'm currently in Turkey. I've been moving pretty much non-stop, so I have not established residency anywhere. I have no residency in the U.S. (I am a US citizen though).

I'm new to affiliate marketing, and haven't made a penny yet, just to clarify.

So, last night I joined CJ, and ShareASale, and started applying for affiliate programs. I put in my brothers address in NYC, because it's the only address I know, and any checks I make I would have sent to him, so he can deposit them for me if need be. But as I understand, this may not even be an issue, as both affiliate platforms offer direct deposit for U.S. banks.

After I had already applied to a bunch of affiliate programs, because of what one retailer stated on their info page, it came to my attention that New York residents are having a bit of trouble in affiliate marketing these days due to this ridiculous nexus law that was past. Many big companies (like Overstock) are not accepting NY residents as affiliates because of this, and my guess is a lot of small ones as well. It's hard to find out which will accept you or not with a NY address. I was actually denied automatically by Overstock, my guess is because a NY address was submitted.

But I'm not a NY resident, I'm not a resident anywhere in fact. I used to be a resident in NY, but that was more than 4 years ago, and the last residency I had was in NC, and that was over 2 years ago.

Because I didn't want to deal with this, I quickly changed my address to an Alaska address where my friend resides. There is no sales tax in AK, so these nexus laws should never be a problem there. I can have my checks sent to him, and he can deposit for me, if need be, as direct deposit should work fine.

Is this a good strategy? I'm not planning on coming back to the US for a long while.... can I just put down an address in Alaska and dust my hands off?

Would it be better to give a foreign address, and just utilize direct deposit and not worry about checks being sent?

What about taxes and W2's and such. I think I need to fill a W2 out in order to get paid, but what address should I use?

Has anybody had experience with this?

Any help would be great.

Thanks!
