selling physical products?

Hey everyone !
Would anyone care to share some friendly advice on where to start with selling physical products? The products I'm going to try to sell are beauty products such as soaps, lotions, perfumes, and some cleaning products for home. None of these are brand name.. its a family business and they're only selling around china, Philippines, around that area. Would it be a good a idea to sell those products in other areas other than Philippines and china even though there are brand names already like dove, do you think I have a chance of making any sales at all with a new product?

There are tons of marketplaces like Craigslist and eBay that you could sell on, but where you sell it also depends on the quantities that you have. Are you just trying to sell individually or are you a wholesaler? Also, do you have the actual products or are you dropshipping directly from another company?

If you are wanting to sell them online or even just make people aware of them to contact you and sell them offline, I'd create a blog and write a lot of helpful posts about the problems that your products solve without being sales letters.

Have an opt in box so people can sign up for your list and give away discount coupon or some product samples for people who sign up.

Send out weekly emails to your list with blog posts you've posted or other helpful information in a 2 column format, with the main post being in the bigger column and some pictures, specials, and other pieces of info. in the other column.

If you are wanting to just sell these totally offline, then go to some salons and see if anyone will invite some of their clients to come and try them in the salon and also if the salon will carry them.

As for if you have a chance, yes, you do. If your product is different and good and you market it correctly.

@chase watts I'm not a wholesale and I do plan on having them droppshipped eventually. I want to test the products out firsthand. Do you think I should get the products shipped to the USA where I will package and send them out myself or do dropshipping? Its a family owned business and I want to branch out their product to other potential buyers. @topkatt I plan on selling both offline and online but wouldnt there be too much competition with products that already have a good name?

Those products require a label that meets all the Federal labeling requirements. Use this link for a starter... Cosmetic Labeling Manual

What you will most likely find out is that you will need to have the factory produce a line of products specifically for the US market. Otherwise, you will have to have the labels created for each product and individually apply them to each bottle, can, tube, etc.

      That gets expensive.

When the new labeling laws came out we (meaning our importing distributor that we were the retail partner with) had entire containers held up in port by the Customs officials because the products didn't have the proper labels and documentation to satisfy the regs. We finally got the Customs people to allow the containers to be trucked to our warehouse and once the labels were attatched they would reinspect the product and allow them out the door.

Again, very expensive and not recommended.

You can try and sneak your products in if you don't have the proper labels, but if you get caught you'll wish you hadn't done that.

Bottom line...set the products up for success to begin with. You want to grow the business, not get it shut down.

If you can comply with what Bill mentions above, take a look at Amazon Fulfillment.
