Sales Funnel Testing?

Due to my recent thread asking about OTO's it was suggested to me by John Taylor (Thanks John) that I should split test both methods. But what I would like to know is how do you split test a sales funnel before going live with a product launch and how do you do it so that the people who test it for you don't figure out what the product is and spill the beans to everyone about it?

I'd love to get some responses from experienced marketers who have tested sales funnels before launching a new product and how you went about it.

You have a number of options..

    1. Set up a pre-launch poll which asks the specific questions you
want your target audience to answer. This can be an excellent
way to build a pre-launch list... especially if you offer them a
    special discount.

    2. Set up an A/B testing script that splits your traffic into option
A or option B. The script will then show you the number people
who purchases each offer. (You'll need about 40 actions (sales)
in total for your results to be statistically valid.

    3. Set up two different domains... one for each offer and split your
traffic generation. Then you can measure which offer generates
    the optimum ROI.

and how do you do it so that the people who test it for you don't figure out what the product is and spill the beans to everyone about it?
If you use a poll, that won't be an issue.

If you use a split test script that drops a cookie and records the
visitor's IP address, returning visitors will always see the same offer.

If you use two domains, it's possible that some people will see both
    offers.

I think you could also test salesfunnels when you're already live, you need visitors to actually see if your salesfunnel converts, and if not, tweak it until it does.

But John has some great advice as well!

Yes if you already have a list in place then you split test through your list first. Set up your A/B funnels and send traffic that way. It might help to try and get some JV's to send some traffic your ways as well.

What if I decided to launch the product here as a WSO beforehand?

I guess I would be correct in presuming if I run the WSO one way and it doesn't do well, I can then run the WSO again but with a different funnel and see how that goes?
