Keyword analysis tutorial?

Could someone please point me to the best keyword research/analysis tutorial? Reading the forum and emailing different service providers has left me confused on the analysis part.

I hear low competition is good then low competition is bad, Need 1000 searches then need at least 5000 searches, exact phrase only, "get the money words" - what are the money words.

Does anyone have a decent tutorial thread or WSO to help with this? I can search but it comes up with hundereds of threads that mention research but finding the definative one is a needle in a haystack.

Thanks

samurai is a good software, but you can also try finding a longtail keyword by yourself. You just need to put max 3 hours to find the right keyword

Not trying to be an ass but what is "the right keyword"? I have a root keyword that google tells gets 201,000 local searches a month (broad) and I look through the list and see several variations that are interesting but then what?

Sure I can fiverr somebody to do this or get a keyword WSO from someone but how do I know their methodology is sound?
