Twitter Shorty Awards cheater - hilarious. But also sad.

So Twitter has the Shorty Awards - and a bunch of people are out there stumping for votes to win the Shorty awards for best Tweeter in various categories.

I just saw an article about someone gaming the Shorty Awards by paying people to vote for them.

HILARIOUS - but also really sad. And here's the thing - that person was named in the article - so remember this - whatever you do on the internet lives forever. Nobody wants to be known as the person who was so desperate for validation that they tried to game, of all things, a Twitter contest.

    I agree with you, Dana...

    Regarding this post...

Plus I look at you as "The Twitter Queen!"

I bought your WSO "Twitter Goldrush" a few days ago...

    implemented the steps...

And received, like, 350+ new followers in 3-5 days...

Which is pretty good to me...

Thank you for the post above...and the resource once again...

    Pavon

Dana there is a well known person who is trying to get a shorty award. They emailed their list to ask them all to vote for them. But they really crossed the line when they had a tweet which had a link, and it went directly to the place where you submitted them. They had everything in place, I nominate XXXX for an award because of her etc.

That was pathetic, and when you get hundreds or thousands of nominations with identical reasons, questions should be asked.

I mainly stayed out of the whole Shorty Awards thing. I didn't want any of my followers to get upset if I voted for one person over another. So, for the most part, I didn't vote for anyone.

The only ones I did vote for are the ones that asked for it. And, if they made it easy with a prepared tweet, so much the better.

But, gee, if I had known I could have gotten paid for my votes, I would have held out for money.

Thanks Pavon - that is so nice of you to say so!

Trying to game the system to win a SHORTY award - for God's sake, it's not an Oscar! But in any event, in this day and age it will be found out, these things always are, and then the person will just look ridiculous.

I'm afraid the fake voters weren't getting paid much. Crime doesn't pay these days. Unless you're white collar.

I also ordered Twitter Gold Rush from Dana and now have about 1700 followers (in a week and a half!) as of this writing.

      Thank you Dana!

To get back on topic. It seems that there will always be people who abuse any system.

      Their hypocrisy knows no bounds!

Crime? Isn't that maybe taking the awards a little too seriously?

Maybe I'm just too jaded, but I really most awards--and by that I mean awards in general, not just the Shorty Awards--aren't really anything of value. I mean, heck, eBay gave me an award for buying stuff. I've been thinking about framing it. LOL!
