Is my design too complicated...

Hi fellow warriors...

As part of my 3 main projects (the first of which I received amazing help with from you guys) I am soft! launching my newspaper/magazine for a specific niche.

With using evp2 and resizing the mainpage video which will be sized accordingly to resemble the front page of an offline magazine, ( header, footer, various lines of text about what's inside the issue), my aim is to basically bring a front page to life.

The lines of text etc will be clickable links to the relevant content.

On clicking through to any piece of content, the newspaper theme would then be seen with all of it's relevant pages and posts etc.

With a new issue every month.

I plan to run it for two months with no charge, and from January 2012 'gradiate' a level of payment, starting from $0 through $1, $4.99 and $9.99

There will be a downloadable piece of tuition ( magic trick) that can be purchased every month, the price of which is 'gradiates' from $9.99 to $0 depending on a readers subscription level.

I must admit, reading this as of now seems complicated, and maybe I am making it so, where it doesn't need to be.

It's just that, after looking, reading, and having bought magic magazines, then seeing what's available online, as a reading experience, there is a huge difference.

Any thoughts you guys have would be a big help

Thanks in advance

James

    Hi James,

Kudos to you for taking action. But you might want to remind yourself to stay focus on doing one project at a time. Doing too many things at the same time will lead you to burn out and not getting any results. [Besides reminding you, I am reminding myself too ]

You might want to get your website live online and post it on the forum again so that the other Warriors will be able to give you more constructive feedback

Great advice from Zack - I tried to do the same thing that you are doing and I got BURNOUT and as Zack said - no results

Stick with one thing and put it out there - then improve on it and collect the money :-)

Hi Zack and Jeanne. I know exactly what you mean. Lack of focus and such has 'helped me' procrastinate, and get nowhere.

Ever since discovering what is possible online, and through buying 'shiny new toys', I feel I have got a definite plan and am pushing hard not to stray from my goals.

Thanks for replying and sharing your thoughts. I am emboldened by the help and connections one makes here. It's a great space.

I will post a link to my opus! when it's online. Or at least an example of what I'm trying to achieve.

    Best Regards

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your support till now and replies. It is really appeciated
Ive been busy this weekend, not just online, but busking and earning, but every other minute...been working this up

    EasyVideoPlayer 2.0 » novermber issue

It gives a better idea of what I am trying to envisage. The content of it is just a snippet of a different video and its just there so as to give a better idea of what I am trying to do. As said, the video is not the content, but when I work that up, the appearing text will be timed to show upon what my script is.

The links are clickable and have put in another one of my sites to redirect. Dont opt in, no need to, as the url when Im live will be relevant pages to the text.

Aethetic wise it needs work and am busy doing that this week. Also, its an evp2 hosted page as Im having difficulty in embeding it where it should go, on the actual site itself

I liken this front page to the glossy cover advertising that you get on some offline newpapers, Im sure you will have seen some publications in any newsagent like that.

Any click through will take the reader and viewer to my newspaper site where all the tabs pages etc can be viewed.

The clickable links on this 'front cover', will be the free stuff that is open to everyone, (much like skimming through a magazine/newpaper whilst in the newsagents), but after a few issues are under the belt and confidence is built up that it will be a monthly publication, there will be a 'gradiated' subscription option for access to other pages that are not shown on the front cover, but on the news site itself.

I am staying focussed a large percentage of the time, and feel I have the tenacity to see it through. I am excited about the design in my head and whats shown here as a test, and having been a magician for over 20 years, buying, subscribing and enjoying magic magazines, I have yet to see any other publication in this 'niche' do what I am planning.

It all started with an idea to do a web based tv show, and has now morphed into an interactive online magazine..

Over the past outings I have had with MagicNews I have managed to interest around 200 people to register with what has gone before. Magicnews has just run a contest (on contest burner) which was successful adn now its pedal to the metal...I see my newpaper/magiazine as a 'hub' for what my other 2 main projects are a part of, and once the newpaper kicks in, and strength is gained, Ill focus on each other one seperately.

If you could have a look at the ink and let me know what you think...Is it too complicated, or a good idea.

Ill reply to everyones comments and advice.

    Thanks again and Best Regards

At first I could not figure out what was going to happen just reading your first post, but seeing the video gave me a bit better understanding.

It is probably OK for it to be a bit complex on the inside as long as you are the only person who sees that complexity. If your intended customers have to tackle anything complex that is going to reduce your conversions.

A tiered subscriptions with 3 tiers is pretty complex because you have to do a lot of work to explain why there are 3 levels. After getting free content for a couple of months, it sounds like you are expecting your customers to realize what a good deal they have been getting and decide they want to pay.

I might be wrong on that understanding, but it kind of sounds that way.

If that is the case, it is fairly likely that many of your customers are not going to think that way. instead, they are going to think more along the lines of "Well, I got two months free, that's good enough for me."

I don't know that for a fact either, but I do think that expecting people to be grateful enough to pay for something they have been getting for free, right around the holidays, is probably not the best scenario for optimum conversions.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for that, I was thinking that my idea was too complex, but in reality, its pretty straight forward, when it comes to the front page really. Just had another look at it and it works (test content notwithstanding as well as aesthtetics).

Re the pricing structure, yes it is something I will have to look at.

What about 2 months free with a 'forced conntinuity'. My initial thought was that in order to have readers pay (and as an option pay up front for 10 months for 12 issues) there would have to be that confidence in a new issue every month.

Anyway, as a business enterprise, it is I reckon one of tha main hurdles...so I will have to get my thinking cap on...

Thanks for taking the time to look and share advice and comment.

    Regards
