PLR and A Blog = Great Business Model, Traffic, Indexing, Making Money

I have been using this model for a couple of months now, and it is an excellent model.

Here is exactly what I did and why.

I was looking for a domain name for a recipe site, and went to Godaddy to see what was available. I normally put in something that often is taken, and I wait to see what else is offered. I think I put in recipes dot com

As I looked at the options, one stood out and it had blog in the url. I went to namecheap and bought it.

No keyword research, nothing just acted on instinct. I knew that the url could be used to do various things. I also knew there were products with CJ which could be sold there.

I sat on the domain name, only because I didn't have time to do anything with it. I knew that at some stage I would do something.

I saw a WSO for unique articles and I got some written on the topic.

I also had a recipe book which had various related recipes and that book was a PLR that I had bought on ebay for $0.99 a couple of years ago. Bought because I love to cook.

I have some personal recipes on the subject as well.

I decided to create a website with it, and installed a wordpress blog through fantastico.

I then created the template using Rapid Niche Websites, and for the header I used a PLR header which I had.

I uploaded the site, and then started to add the content.

I used a mixture of articles (which were written for me) and PLR recipes.

Putting a recipe each day or two was simple as copy and pasting from the PLR.

I then loaded my autoresponder with some more recipes and those who sign up get 1 recipe a week.

I have affiliate products for sale there which was as simple as applying via CJ, and putting some from Amazon.

Results we get around 800 unique visitors each month in the 3 months since I started this blog.

We have been indexed and have 1st position for 10 different keywords.

We have a PR1 recently put on the blog.

And the majority of content there is from a PLR receipe book.

Advertising, I have mentioned on twitter when I have put a new recipe on the blog, and have had it in my signature here.

Most of the traffic has come through Google.

Use PLR but use it wisely, and putting on a blog and in your autoresponder works.

I've been hearing others say they have success with a mix of original and PLR content, too, so I'm glad to hear you confirm it. And congrats!

Just curious..what's the ratio of original content to PLR? Also, did you add any comments or make changes to the PLR to change it up a bit, or just use it unchanged?

Now I'm thinking I should scour my hard drive for all the old recipe books I've downloaded!

Bev, thanks...That clinches it...I'm digging through my hard drive this week!

It is a hot topic, and one that will remain hot, because people love [food name] and the site is good enough to eat.

Seriously, people have said they gained pounds reading it.

And for anyone who missed it, I use a wordpress blog which I installed using my cpanel.

Simple to do. I created my own template which took around 30 mins to do.

If you have a spare hour, you can sit there with the PLR open and make dozens of posts, and time them for release using the calendar to update your blog automatically.

No thinking needed with recipes, because they are done for you.

This is very "sweet" of you Bev ... and happy birthday ;-)

    Hi Bev,

It is a simple and easy to follow business model.
And I am sure anyone can follow.

I think you have shown that it is easy to
tap onto different resources such as a
    blog, content and autoresponder
plus more content to be give away.

    Thanks alot again!

    Cheers,
    John

I want to add that I've been having some success with a similar set up as well. I load about a year's worth of PLR on a subject (at least one post a week) with a bulk-loading plugin. It takes either a zip or a csv of articles and then sets them with random future post dates. Then I use the "Scheduled Post Shift" or "Old Post Promoter" to set the posts up on a loop.

My thinking is that the SEO benefits of a given blog page will diminish over a year, as will the focused attention of my readership, and EVEN the memories of my most loyal readers.

It's truly set and forget. I've been playing with it in response to people being critical of my other auto-blogging methods, and for people who like longer form content. It seems to work very well for me, though I have not had one set up for over a year to see what happens when it rolls over.

My educated guess it that it will work awesome.

P.S. What I plan on doing if I want to flip these is taking the content OUT of the blog itself, and replacing it with a WP-O-Matic install which pulls the RSS of the SAME CONTENT from another blog I control.

That way, if they want to keep the ongoing content, I can charge a small monthly fee to keep the articles coming. If after a year, they want more articles, I can then find more PLR and load up another year for them for a fee.

But I don't want to derail your thread, Bev.

Point is, this works. If you're sitting on a mountain of PLR, DO SOMETHING WITH IT! It won't earn you a PENNY sitting on your hard drive.
