Yes, sounds like spam. I'm using the free WP plugin called "WP-reCaptcha" and it helped.

If you get an account at Wordpress.com, you can get an activation key for Akismet which is a spam filter which comes with a self hosted installation of WordPress. If your site is a personal site, there is no charge for Akismet.

The first thing I do when I'm not sure about a comment is Google part of the text. Spammers don't usually stop at one blog. I found the text of one comment in my spam queue on over 200k blogs.

One popular tactic of spammers is to take an old comment in a thread and repost it. Copy it and Control + F in your browser on the post to search for it in the comment thread.

I agree, install the Askimet plugin, as chriscobb states above remember to set it as 'personal' and adjust the 'payment slider' to $0. You may also want to make sure you manually approve comments, I find that on sites where I didn't moderate comments, and manually approve them, spammers will flood your comments with their nonsense.

Adding to this, set a high standard of quality for blog comments and delete anything that does not meet the standard.

Software can help you keep the robots out, but it won't stop the manual variety. If the manual spammer sees nothing but high-quality, relevant comments, they'll likely see it as too much work and move on. If they try it anyway, see my first paragraph...
