Ideas to Monetize a niche forum website

Hello Warriors,

I've owned a niche forum website for around 6 years and it gets reasonable traffic without ever having had any SEO or advertising.

I don't have analytics on the site but Awstats shows around 400-500 daily uniques and a good spread of keywords (1900+) all pertaining to the site's niche. I know from experience with Awstats that these number are on the high side.
The site is an 'Audiophile' website with articles and reviews (all unique) of high-end audio equipment. The forum has close to 16,000 posts with many of them showing up here and there in Google.
I've tried Google ads but only made around $10/mth and I've run amazon products (books, Music, DVD's) and made nothing from it. I could open it up to banner ads from manufacturers but that seems like a lot of hands-on work.

I've tried promoting other websites by adding links from the forum template. This effectively creates over 5000 backlinks to whatever site I add to the template, but it really didn't impact serps much since obviously they're all coming from the same domain.

I've thought about doing some work on the site to get the hits up and I think 10,000 per month is easily achievable.

But what's the best way to make money on the traffic? Having tried the obvious I'm wondering if there's something I'm overlooking.

Any ideas would be welcomed. I won't post a link but the site is newaudiosociety dot com if anyone cares to take a look.

Cheers
