Hello Warriors,

I wonder if I can actually rank my site with my targeted keywords on a 150 word post?

Sorry for the ignorance, just need some word from the Pro's and experienced folks

Thank you

Usually you want to aim for 400 words, but I have seen many sites that have ranked with just 10 words. It really matters on your competition, but yes, it is possible.

May I ask why you feel the need to write just 150 words or are you testing something?

Have you Googled the word "Something", that person has one word on that site. He also has around 26,000 backlinks.

Without seeing your site, what your niche is and having no idea what's currently on the site, I'm afraid I've no idea if you could do that.

        Is it possible? - Yes.

Is it possible for you with your site? - No idea.

          .
That's incredible. One word, no graphics and he's number 1 on google.

Oh for that kind of back linking

            Hi,

I find it pretty hard to understand. One word, no graphics and number one in google. It can't be, right.

            This is out of logic.

          Well ain't that "Something"...

          Cool share.

I have seen sites with just a banner ad, no content, crappy graphics rank in the #2 or #3 slot for a low competition keyword... doesn't mean they'll be there long though!

So sure you can rank a page/post with just a little content, but in most circles you'll find content is king, so the higher the quality and the more value you deliver, the better IMO.

I don't think Google would appreciate 150 words per page. From my learnings, Google reads approximately somewhere around 200 words (may be 200+ words) in each page. (I think this gives you the exact answer whether to optimize with 150 words or more).

However, if the quality of content (in 150 words) is exceptional with no keyword spamming (stuffing), then may be (just may be) you can get a chance to rank well.

    Good luck,

      Hi Biznics,

See my post above. Google the word "Something" or just go to Something.

Then maybe just maybe, explain how the amount of words on a page is so vitally important.

It is one of many, many variables.

        Hi Richard,

I'll try to clear this in detail below in light of "something" example you gave above.

Before I go into details, here are few facts of the domain, something.com

        1. Something.com: Registered - 1995, Expiry - 2015
        2. Backlinks: 24,144 (Yahoo! SiteExplorer)
        3. Pages: 889 - Usually most pages only contain images

Now if we only look at the top 2 points, it is clear that Google is giving weight to its "Domain age" & "Backlinks". NOT to something...

However, like you said, that content is one of many variables Google consider, but if we specifically talk about something.com, it is clear that it is ranking not because of "nothing in content", but only because the domain age and reasonable backlinks.

And I am sure OP doesn't have a 15 years old domain and 800+ backlinks to his website, to make Google give importance to his 150 word; keyword optimized posts.

Like I said in my first post that according to most professional SEOs I know, Google "does" read around 200+ words of content on each page, so 150 words on every page might pull the trigger of SPAM for Google; doesn't it?

And yes, you are right about the "amount of words", but how clearly do you think I can explain or give detail on any specific product / service keeping my limit to 150 words? It is possible but either I am keeping things short, or I am leaving so many doors unopened; not discussing the topic completely (bad user experience).

PS: Now that Google Panda is here, Google emphasize more on on-page SEO (particularly the quality of content) while evaluating sites for ranking.

Just my 2 cents though. Would love to hear your comments on it Richard.

        Enjoy!

I have a questions - a little off topic and likely to reveal just how new I am to website building. (I've been ghostwriting for nearly 5 years, but am new to having a site of my own.)

So my question is: How can you tell how many backlinks a site has?

Buddy you should really start with learning the basics of SEO!

Also targeting keywords with little competition!

Also learn about link-wheals and different ways to generate backlinks.

I don't advise buying backlinks at this stage which your on, because people think they can take the short road, and just buy some backlinks and they'll start making money... but they never will!

What kind of posts would these be? Articles, blog comments, forum posts? There are many kinds of "posts" if you want to rank your site. Your question is quite vague. I guess you have to put in more details so that we can help you with clear inputs and answers..

You should always be testing to find out what works and what doesnt. Dont just rely on what other people tell you will work, because usually by the time they give you the info its usually been done to death.

My best suggestion is to just try it and find out for yourself.
There are so many varibles to consider like on page seo, competition etc theres no real way to know until you try.

Most of my sites have 750 word reviews on them, but thats only because I prefer to offer very detailed reviews so the next site they goto is via my affliate link to buy the product. But if thats not your goal then give it a go. Maybe write three posts at 150 words and 3 at 600 and throw the same links at them. Should be pretty apparent after that what the answer is.

My shortest posts are about 300 words. My average post is about 700 words. My longest post was 1800 words (should have split it up!). I've read that its best to do posts with around 400 words.

    hey,

    Actually, it is possible.

But it depends on various factors, but one thing for sure is Backlinks.

it's alot of method out there to rank website. Those method more or less are worked. You can choose one of them and stick with that.

    Hope this help.

Word count is meaningless. Write something interesting and useful for people, not search engines. Do some SEO and move on .

The longer the better, but of course the content must make sense and be meaninful because the bounce rate will be high with crappy content.
