Article Directory Publishing

7 replies
Hi all

I've been using Ezine and a few other article directories, and I've had a handful of articles that have been published by Ezine users on their websites. I'm quite new to this, so I'm just unsure of how they're meant to publish my article. The sites (where people have published my article) I've visited have no link to my site (which is in the resource box in my Ezine profile, and no recognition of me writing it.

What should they include if they use my article?

Thanks alot

MZ

    I think it's in the terms that they have to credit the article to you. Get in touch with Ezine as it looks like your articles have just been ripped.

      I'm afraid there's no point at all in following this suggestion: EZA doesn't want to know about it and won't help you.

      Their TOS have been broken, but the reality is that it isn't their problem: it's your problem.

      When this happens, the reason for it (in each case) is one of three things:-

      (i) The person is a deliberate thief;

      (ii) They're using an "autoblog" which doesn't take resource-boxes - this possibility may overlap with (i) above;

      (iii) Their webmaster made a mistake and forgot to include your resource-box as required by EZA's terms of service.

      These people are not really doing you any harm, but still, I always them follow up, myself. I do benefit from doing so, overall.

      But I know from many earlier discussions here, on this subject, that my primary objective in such instances seems to be different from that of many others. I don't want to get the content taken down: I want to get my backlinks added to it.

      When someone takes my articles without my resource-box and backlinks, I contact them explaining what's happened (they may well not know - such work is commonly outsourced), thanking them for syndicating my article, offering them more articles (if I can add them to my syndication network, so much the better, of course) and asking them please to be kind enough to ensure that my resource-box (attached) is appended to the article within 7 days.

      I have a standard, pre-written, fill-in-the-blanks email to send to people, when this happens. It takes almost no time at all.

      (It costs nothing to try, and if it doesn't work, then I also have a standard, pre-written, fill-in-the-blanks DMCA notice to send to their host a week later, with copies to their registrar, Google and themselves. That takes the content away, 99% of the time.)

      You can almost always find out who their hosting company is from a site like who-hosts.com.

      I always find it hard to understand why so many people apparently don't bother doing this. It's almost effortless, and the benefits from it can actually be considerable. It's not as if there's any downside.

    After reading this post, I googled some of the text from one of my ezine articles. I found my article, verbatim, posted on another site. No atribution or resource box, of course. The site has no contact link that I can locate. I tried to leave a message in the comment section, but it would not work either. I have never filed a DMCA notice but I guess that is next on my learning curve.

      If there is no way for you to contact the person who runs the blog, then go straight to "step 2."

      ... file a DMCA notice with their host.

    I did that, thanks. I found a total of 16 sites that have taken my article word for word. Would have been nice if at least one had attributed the article to me or left my resource box intact. I suppose I should take it as a complement but it really aggravates me. I cannot imagine how much time and energy I will have to expend looking for stolen copy and filing DMCA notices once I really get into article marketing/syndication.

    Welcome to life online. Unfortunately, it's a sad fact that your content is going to be stolen. I've stopped even trying to find all the content that people have ripped from me. I would rather spend that time creating more content and doing things that bring in money instead of things that bring me down.

    Heck, I've even found someone listed on LinkedIn who says she works for my company! I should contact her and tell her that she should show up to the office a little more often.

    Most of all the content that is sniped from article directories are done so with autoblogging sites. In that case, you need not worry about them stealing your content as Google Panda has taken care of that problem. Or should I say, in the process of taking care of the auto bloggers.

    I've noticed with all my niche directories that, as Google updates their algorithms, I get fewer and fewer autoblogging content. I've also created a spam list of over 4,000+ IP addresses that I use to fight against them too.

    Anyway, I wouldn't worry about the thieves, just keep a steady flow of (good) content going to the article directories and you will start seeing great results...
