Assuming:

1. 1,000 people on your list
2. it is a responsive list (they love you)
3. you have a 30% open rate

On average, how many individual sales will you make on one email broadcast?

    Hmmmm

    I would figure a 5% CTR (click through rate) - 50 people
Then maybe a 20% conversion on the sales page (which is high) - 10 people

    So optimistically..... 10?

It really depends on the offer, whether the offer is relative to the person's needs and how well the email itself flows (in other words, the attention factor).

There are other variables as well....for instance, is it a product launch? How saturated is the market? ect.

These are the kinds of questions you need to dig around for. IMO you should do a series of emails, not rely on one broadcast. Warm up your list for the actual offer. One way to do this is to ask your list to help you by completing a short survey...the survey will ask the questions to get the information you need to know how to market to them effectively.

Robert Allen is good at this. He talks about how to do this in one of his books, the Internet Marketing book...forget the title but it's at Barnes and Noble/main stream book stores.

I've used this technique, of surveying my list prior to an offer, and it works magically.
