Hi all

I have been trying to learn Keyword Research and using googles keyword tool I got the following results. Are these good keywords to go for or does googles keyword tool not tell you the full story.

Keyword ----Competition -----Global MS ----Local MS ----Appx CPC

1 xxx ---------low -------------18100 --------18100 ------$7.23
2 xxx ---------low -------------40500 --------40500 ------$4.55
3 xxx ---------low -----------11,100,000 -----11,100,000 --$4.09
4 xxx--------- low ------------165,000 -------165,000 -----$4.68

I cannot understand why the global monthy searches and local searches show the same.

Thanks

Jay

I would recommend option number one. The more unique your content is the more will be the CPC

I think these results are for broad match. I generally follow following steps:
      1) Exact match volume
      2) Phrase match volume
      3) commercial intent of keyword
      4) competition

according to CPC it seems it has to be high competition niche..but the keywords you have selected are so Broad...that many people do not bid on them..

what makes a keyword good is if it converts sales or not, not the number of searches it gets. The best way to know is to just test out with ppc so you can get a quick answer before you go and start a 6 month seo campaign, it's best to find out in a few days, than in 6 months, yo ucan always get money back you can never get time back.

Thanks for the advice, one of the keywords I am looking at is "How To xxxxx" i am taking it this should convert pretty well as people searching are looking for a specific answer to a problem.

I always look at the google competition by googling the term myself without quotes because most people will search without quotes and if the competition is more than 25000, I don't go for it.

I don't use the competition part on the keyword tool.

They very well may be decent keyword to go for, but I'd do a bit more research before jumping on them. You didn't state if these were broad or exact match results. I'm guess broad, so you will want to see what kind of numbers they get when set to exact match.

Also for your competition, look at the first page of google for the keywords, and more specifically the first 3 results. This is your real competition. Take a look at the sites there and see if you could beat them. Check how well they are optimized for the keyword, the amount and types of backlinks they have, and also the age and PR.
