New Site: 11 month SEO evaluation - Please Help

Hi Guys,

Started a website about 11 months ago and was wondering if my seo is any good. I picked up some links and some keywords are on the first page. I was wondering what is a good web site age to get solid traffic and to have my Alexa Rank under 1 million?

Current Stats: Daily Traffic - 65 Unique Alexa Rank - was 1.2 mill jumped to 1.4 million

Goal: Daily Traffic - 150 - 200 with Alexa Rank under 1 million

My niche is competitive and I was wondering how long to achieve this goal with a new website? My domain is 11 months old and would like to achieve this goal within 6 months what do you guys recommend?

I notice I don't get many broad searches for my keywords on the first page, I actually don't get any?

Please HELP!

The traffic figures are pretty tiny, even your goal figures wouldn't seen to make for a great amount of revenue.

Have you looked more deeply into your search ranking, there are free tools like te Firefox Rank Checker pluigin, or the trial version of SEO Power Suit's Rankchecker that you can use to check the top 100 result positions for perhaps 100 different keywords. Showing up on page 10 of the results is a long way from pagew 1 where 90% of the clicks happen, but these results might give you some benchmarks for tracking your improvements.

Of course examining the backlinks the top ranked competitors have might help you set your SEO goals, you have probably already used tools like Yahoo Site Explorer.

Thanks for the reply. I would love to get over 500 clicks a day and niche is pretty competitive. I just don't understand why I am getting so little traffic. I am seeing some sales and an increase in traffic since I have been doing a lot of blog commenting which has really helped my keywords to start to rank. I am hoping this is what I have been missing in my seo since I just started using it a few weeks ago.

What would you recommend in order to get my site 500 plus unique visitors a day and how long would it take.

You need to know where your keywords are currently ranking, and where your traffic is currently coming from. You also need to assess whether your on-page SEO is effective. It's difficult to say without knowing your URL or niche. But if you want traffic organically, you have to get your keywords ranking. Blog commenting is just part of the linking strategy you can use.

First off, take Alexa out of your "signals" as it is completely inaccurate (especially for low traffic sites). A 1m Alexa can be easily reached with just few visitors a day, if those visitors have the alexa toolbar installed (so you get the point of how inaccurate can be).

Giving you an estimate on blind, without knowing the competitiveness of the keyword (i.e. who ranks in the first page, what type of links those sites have, how well are they optimized etc..) is hard.

Can you go through a list of what you've been doing for offsite SEO? Is it just blog comments? I would suggest doing some article marketing as well with high PR article directories. If you're ok with blackhat methods get someone to create a linkwheel for you or purchase some software like SENuke (I just bought a lifetime and I can already see how it will pay for itself in about a month).

There are lots of options out there for offsite SEO if you have a little bit of money, and to me from what you've described your issue is one of non-existant offsite SEO.

Also, I would highly suggest Market Samurai for not only keyword research but competition analysis. That is only $97 for a lifetime license.

But I agree with everyone else, unless we know your keyword and domain, it is tough to help since we can't analyze what your competition is (every single keyword has unique competition).
