Can a High-Definition Camera Record Low-Definition Video?

I would like to buy a webcam. Ideally, I would like
an HD webcam -- but I'm afraid that my computer
might struggle to play and edit HD video. That said,
would an HD webcam also allow me to record video
in lower resolutions? (Or are HD webcams only able
to record in HD?)

    I would say that mine do, you select how you want to record prior to doing it. I have Canon HFS11's and Kodak Zi8's, both will do so AND accept mics and remotes which you need if you are flying solo to get best results.
