Looking to sign up for a auto-responder, but don't want to spend too much

I'm relatively new to auto-responders and I keep hearing about Aweber, Imnica, GetResponse, etc.. but the main one, Aweber which looks awesome is kind of expensive when you get over a couple hundred subscribers. I tried Imnica, but every time I sent out a email it kept going into the spam box - I'm not sure how great Imnica is.

I'm looking for a good and inexpensive auto-responder just until I can make some money from Internet Marketing...

Aweber has a $1 trial for the first 30 days...so just make it your goal to be earning enough to cover the $19 fee within that first month.

Could I really make money within 1 month with a list? Doesn't it take time to build a targeted list?

Yes, it's possible. As long as you're really out there doing what it takes to build a list and you have good followup messages as well. It does take time, but it will be rewarding in the long run. I say go for aweber. It's the best out there and good customer support if ever you need any help.

What exactly does it take to build a list? From what I know I have to find a good market. Do some market research to find out what people want to buy and want. Do some keyword research to find out what people are looking for. Then setup some squeeze pages and setup my sales page. I can also create a blog writing content that is linked to the niche.

          Is that correct?

List building has been covered many times on here so if you search (above) 'list building' you'll get a number of threads. You'll see there's loads of ways to build a list.

Aweber all the way. You can start off with the $1 trial. Best deliverability in the business and easy to use.

Your list will pay for any increase in cost, meaning if you have over 500 subscribers you should be making at least $500 per month.

Yes, you could make money in less than that too if you have the proper fundamentals in place and drive targeted traffic to your site.

Icontact I believe is free for the first month then $17 a month or so afterwards. It's pretty easy to use and has great customer service. Highly recommended.

Just spend the money on Aweber and be done with it. It's a business expense, which is deductible. Go with the best so you can focus on marketing... that's what you wish to do right?

Try first the $1 trial of Aweber. If you think the performance is good. You can continue with it.

If you are just starting out I highly recommend icontact. That is who I currently use. You can get 500 subscribers for free and send out 2000 messages per month.
I have found them great. I used to use aWebber however I found them quite expensive and also they made it very difficult to download and upload contacts.

I like aweber, but iContact might be better (as BabyMama suggested) since you get up to 500 subscribers free.

Since the industry average is roughly making $1/month per subscriber (if you take care of them), that means you can get up to a $500/month income without paying a dime.

    Not bad!

MailChimp is also free for the first 500 subscribers, and is quite robust. It could be the help you need if your tight on cash.

There must be something about Aweber if all big-shots are using it. I'm using it and had had no problems with it.

Both iContact and Get Response have free options for the first 100 subscribers. I haven't had experience with Get Response, but I am using iContact and their support has been quite good so far.

I've tried a lot of them and went with aweber. Lots of features to make adding the optin box to facebook and sites very easy. Also, more templates and many other features and I find it easier to use.

Aweber is having a lot of deliverability problems lately. I moved my entire aweber list away from them as of recently. And closed my account. They are all under my self-hosted ActiveCampaign set-up now.

The cheapest to get started would be for free using listwire.com. Deliverability is great. I know because I tested them. Built a quick 500 subscribers list to see if it would work well.

I use Imnica Mail, and I like it. You can get a 30 day trial for $1. After that it is like $3/month for up to 1,000 subscribers.

Mailchimp does not allow IM marketers...or at least that use to be the case

Icontact is good if you only promote one product, but it is not friendly to multiple lists with different products...I use to ask them all the time to address this, but not sure if they have in the last year or not?

Aweber allows you to build as many separate lists as you like, I don't like their pre-made newsletters as much as Icontact, but I have many lists and only focus on clean looking emails now anyway, so it works. Plus I do more broadcasting of blogs which works well with aweber...

Really depends on what you need and what you want to do, if I was going after a single product and never planned on expanding beyond that...Icontact is a great tool, but the second you try to expand and create another list around another product you might be in trouble.

I think they all the same deliverable, and that usually is a case of your list, how you got the names, and how creative you are getting with your emails. Simple is usually better these days.

But again it depends on what you need from the service.

Those saying Mail Chimp isn't for IM -- are you sure? It was an IMer on another forum who highly recommended it for list building. I personally have yet to try it because I haven't built lists yet, but I think it's about time I did.

Maximize the 30 days trial of Aweber. That's a lot of time to build your list and promote your campaign.

Aweber, getresponse, and icontacts are the best in the industry right now and they all have an extremely high rate of getting past spam filters so that your emails get read. Hope that helps. =)

Hi, I started with Aweber,..but mylist is so small, I could not afford to pay $17 per mth. I went on to MailChimp, and looks like they turned off their autoresponder? Looks like I hv to pay for it? Can somebody pls help advise if there is no longer a free autoresponder for MailChimp? Thanks.

I was seriously looking at GetResponse for my autoresponder service, but see that it hasn't been mentioned too much in this thread. Their pricing works out a little cheap for a very reasonable number of subscribers.

Can anyone shed some light on why aweber is better than getresponse?

The short answer is, it isn't...

They're both practically the same in terms of features, deliverability, reliability, and price point... it's just that this forum, like any other, tends to have a "hive mind" mentality, and Aweber is the go-to response for people on threads like this.

If you want to pay for a service, Aweber, GetResponse, iContact, Imnica, TrafficWave, or just about any of the other paid providers ( EXCEPT MAILCHIMP! ) will be fine for you...

If you're looking for free, there's only one acceptable choice, and that's List Wire... there is no other free service that comes anywhere close to our level of features, and delivery rate... and no, it's not a trial.

People tend to forget that the $1.00 trial at some services turns into a full price payment the next month, and every month thereafter... and, unless you're better than 99% of the people who try internet marketing, you're not likely to profit much, if at all, in your first month... and then in month 2, when your trial is up, you're in the hole for the cost of your autoresponder...

That's why we created List Wire. Get you feet wet, see if you can turn a profit, and then if you need advanced analytics, or geotargeting, you can move to a paid service... but if you're like the 97%+ who never use those features (we've tested internally on our paid services) you can stick with us forever, no matter how big your list gets, and you won't pay a dime.

        List Wire
I'll support Gary on this one completely.
One thing he missed here though is the fact that Mailchimp has several restrictions on the use of their service.
For instance, you cannot use Mailchimp hosted lists for affiliate marketing (and several other categories), which I learned to my cost.

I am in the process of switching ALL of my blog optins and squeeze pages from Mailchimp to Listwire, having tested on one site for a few months.

It is a bit more fiddly to place an opt-in on a WordPress blog sidebar, but I believe they are working on a fix for it (perhaps Gary can confirm?).

I see more and more emails coming through with the Listwire logo on, some from very well established marketers too.

No harm in taking a look.

        Cheers

        Alan

I would say mailchimp is best for a newbie. Store up to 2,000 subscribers. Send up to 12,000 emails per month. No expiring trials. No contracts. No credit card required. Here is the link for checking plans.
