The Strategy I'm Using to Beat Shiny Object Syndrome

It seems like every newbie on this board runs into shiny object syndrome (aptly abbreviated, SOS). I struggled with it for a while myself, but I've found something that works for me and hopefully for some others:

1. I committed to something - if you've been spending all your time reading, you probably have an idea or two about what you want to try. It's time to commit.

2. I set up Google Alerts - I've got Google Alerts set up to search this board daily for relevant information. This way, I don't miss out on the stuff I want to read about, and I'm not constantly distracted. It's also handy for posting in relevant threads.

3. I only search for what I need - if I need to figure out how to do something, I look up that specific question. If I come up with an idea that I wish existed, I look to see if it already exists (article templates *drool*). I don't aimlessly surf internet marketing sites looking for hot tips.

4. I work at it every single day - at this time, I'm writing a whopping total of one article per day. On the weekends, I might do three a day. Even at that level, it hammers the crap out of doing nothing.

5. I pace myself - when I first started working at this in April, every spare minute I had was designated to making money. A month and some later, I burnt out big time. Working at it daily and pacing myself keeps the journey fun and not overwhelming.

Good luck with your success

-Tim

Great ideas for newbies. And for those so new they don't know what shiny object syndrom is, it is when you get distracted by all the promises of making tons of money by buying this and doing that (shiny objects).

Some more good advice to newbies, it realize this is a business. It will take time and money. Less money means more time.

It isn't a get rich quick scheme and there is no one ebook or one peice of software that will do it for you. If that were so, none of these people would be here.

It takes a plan, a method and a lot of focus.

When you have SOS, you never have focus and you jump from one thing to the next.

You have to focus to be a success at this game.

Thanks a lot. I hope a lot of newbies read this.

If you're suffering from SOS I would recommend you read Dennis Becker's 5 Bucks a Day. Its available as a kindle/nook/pdf/ book and his process will definitely help over come SOS IMHO.

    god luck,

I am definitely a victim of SOS. I am starting to be more focused, lately. No more buying, until I start trying...out my previous purchases. I have some, I still did not crack open! Real good ones, too. I am the WSO collector.hahha.

One thing I have found successful lately is to make 70 or 80% of my day online and 30% doing physical labor or going to see clients. No time to be dazed with shiny objects when I am busy on building the biz that will pay for my life's goals. Other benefit is the shiny object replaced with physical labor is improving my over-all health.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.
