I am working on an Ebook, which I am nearly finished. In my opinion, the content is extremely valuable and readers will benefit significantly from it. I have two ideas for making money from this book.

1) Give it away for free to build a mailing list, then market ClickBank products to the mailing list.

2) Sell it for $2.00, hopefully making lots of sales.

Which option seems like the best choice? Do you have any other suggestions?

    hey dude,

what's the content about? If it's general guidelines and such then FREE. If it's highly targeted, intensive, and practical then sell sell.

I'd say give it away for free and then market 1 or 2 highly related affiliate products to your subscribers.

    OR

Make it as intensive and practical as possible. Make a few videos or podcasts and make a package deal for a minimum of 50 usd.

I'm working on an "ultimate guide" to marketing online, but I'm making sure it's really intensive and the whole package will probably be over 1000.
    anyway, hope this helps.

If you don't have much money and don't already have a lot of traffic or a targeted list...

Then the easiest way for you to get started would be to take a 2-Step approach and offer a FREE report and then shoot them more emails with back end products.

You'll have an easier time selling more products down the line if you provide some quality value first for free.

Basically, the ebook is targeted at people who have probably never even heard of affiliate marketing. It is a step-by-step guide on how to set up a website promoting Clickbank products and to drive traffic to that website. It has pictures and it is extremely informative.

If that's the case then give it for free to build a list, then market with affiliate products. Besides, you can't get a lot of money by selling 2 bucks product anyway.

I completely agree with this as well. You should price your product at $17-20 at least.

Also, make sure that when you go back to market back end products to your list, sell them your own products instead of others.

You'll make 2x as more as a product owner than you will as an affiliate.

Plus, you'll be building a targeted list of buyers and this will be worth more than any other list out there that you can rent, buy, etc.

I like the second option of selling it for $2, you can put a free report link in your ebook to build your list.

Mate, where the hell is Calliope?

There are quite a few ways to go with this outside the norm.

It all depends on where you want to end up.

Free is ok to build a list, but where is the income going to come from?

Understand that you will have a targeted list, so you'll have to back it up with selling someone else's related product, or perhaps create a video version and sell that.

whichever way you go, make sure that if you build a list, keep it warm and informed, or they will forget you pretty quick.

The other option is to try and sell it on Kindle as well.

Just a few suggestions based on a few years experience.

    Cheers.

Haha, Calliope is in Central QLD in Australia.

Oh, and by the way, thanks for the Kindle Idea. I am definitely going to consider it.

    Hi,

It depends on your preference. If you want quick money then go for $2 a pop but i think this is not a profitable option. I have to agree to some guys above about building a mailing list first and then create a mailing list where you can send and offer them products, etc.

Also, an e-book normally costs around $7 and can exceed $15 if it has a really good content on it.

Why not sell it for a few bucks, capture the buyer's email, and still market affiliate products to them later? Selling the book allows you to build a list of buyers...not freebie seekers. Then, provide them tons of quality content along with a few affiliate offers sprinkled in here and there.

Edited to add: If your book is helpful, you could possibly sell it for $7-$10 rather than $2.

Exactly!! Lots of people will sign up in order to get something for free - but have no intention of ever buying anything out of your emails. Having those people on your list does you no good.

Like some of the others here, I think you could sell it for more than $2. To me, that's such a low amount that I automatically think it must be "low" on information, too. If people are serious about learning, they'll be willing to spend more than $2 to get the information.

Id say take choice#1 - gain exposure and name recognition, make your ebook brandable, you need to make your ebook in such a way that other people can include their links in it to be able to make it viral! and of course this is where you could never forget to always include your subscription box or web form. I am sure you already know having a large opt-in email list is one essential key to online success.

    Let's get some perspective here...

The book could sell for $9.97 as a stand alone product. Just don't call it an ebook. Manifesto, Blueprint, White Paper... anything but, ok?

From the book, you can create a top 10 checklist to give away to build your list.

No need to give away the family jewels.

So you offer the book as an upsell on the email confirmation page...

For kindle, I would suggest it is rebranded into something non IM'sh. The genre should be more towards home based business.

I will PM you with my email so we can discuss this further. Work smart andyou'll make some decent coin.

        Your welcome.

After some one opts in, you can redirect them to a page which asks them to look out for your email. Don't send them to the down load page at this stage.

Once they double opt, then send them to the download page.

So you tell them to keep an eye for the email and that they must confiirm in order to get their free stuff.

Then immediately under this, you put a quick sales pitch for the front end product: usually no more than $17 max.

In your copy you have to state that it is the perfect compliment to their free stuff.

        Sal

I will usually sign up for a free item...if the topic is something I am interested in. But if the author sends me a bunch of emails selling affiliate products, it better be a product that offers quality info or I just delete them/unsubscribe.

On the flip side, I've gotten hooked on a few people that constantly offer good content and when they promote an affiliate product, it is top notch.

I would also consider networking with bloggers who are in the affiliate marketing niche, and once you have a good rapport with them, approach them about promoting your ebook. I've done that a few times and haven't gone wrong with it.
