    It's a good idea even when it's PLR that you buy. There are ways to use PLR as is, of course, but in the case of freely distributed articles, I would definitely rewrite them extensively.

    Well you would have to if you want to bag any original content out of them. Chances are though a lot of the plr you have has already been spun before you got it.

    If you are using it for your email list, then there is no need at all to rewrite it unless it is badly written. If you are using it as content for your website, you can add a few paragraphs and change a few things around. This is much better than using a spinning software.

    Thanks all for your input thus far, from an ethics point of view, is this usually acceptable as i have never done it before (its for one of my websites)? And have never seen anyone do it (of course i would not know whether it had been done or not).

    That is one of the best uses of PLR. Of course it is totally acceptable! My most successful site sis about 60% PLR rewrites and 40% original content, though I know people that only use rewritten PLR.

    For best results, don't spin it, simply rewrite it in your own words, add your own keywords, maybe add some of your own spin to it. Make the article yours. It will save time and still give you great content.

    Manual spinning or at least manual spot checking is good, and you may also consider using Copyscape to check the internet for duplicate content.

    Rewriting PLR is a great idea...it's usually a "must" before you use PLR, especially if you have gotten it for free. A great deal of the free PLR available on the internet has been around a while, therefore used to death. You want to rewrite and create an entirely new article, adding in your own personality. There is some free PLR available straight from writers that may not be as used, but even then, I recommend editing it so that it has your style.

    Once again, spinning is not recommended, simply rewrite it and submit it. (Tip: Get your article indexed on your website and then submit it to directories. You don't need to send a different version to each one, directories like EZA do not require unique content.)

    I think it's ok to do manual spinning, but I wouldn't use it a lot. Google can discover duplicates/poor quality articles if you spin them on the same structure (paragraphs, alignment, ideas) when usign synonyms of the words. You have to spin the article structure as well to get the best out of it.

    Always better to rewrite rather than spin. If you spin, at least rewrite once and then spin the rewritten article. Remember the rule - spin for quantity, rewrite for quality.

      I notice that most of you seem to distinguish between spinning manually and rewriting. Wouldn't those two terms be interchangeable?

    Spinning PLR at both synonym and sentence levels is a great use of that material as long as you know what your goals are. For SEO purposes and link building it forms the core of many peoples strategies including mine. As mentioned above if your using it for autoresponders or as part of your own product then there is less need to actually do spinning.

    However, and this is what I feel is the key to spinning successfully: what you create must be of high quality, highly readable and above all something that makes proper sense. Low quality spun content can be spotted a mile off and its not really what you want to be spraying around the web. Instead if you concentrate on producing high quality spun content taking the time to do so will pay off in the long run.

      I sometimes rewrite PLR for content but I do it manually and add my own thoughts. I would ignore the spin for quantity advice, exactly what we shouldn't be doing.
