First post - Any helpful warriors want to help out a newbie with layout improvment?

I joined a couple of days ago. I learned about WF because of Pat's SPI blog and his raving reviews of the 40 day challenge. I've read about 50% of the thread and am still working on the rest. So far, extremely helpful. So glad this forum exists.
A little about me. I'm in between jobs, waiting for a professional license, so I find myself with a lot of time on my hands. I started up a niche site based on my personal interest, straight razor shaving. I've also been sharpening & restoring them for a long time so I am an expert in the field. If any helpful warriors wish to take a look and give me pointers on how to improve conversions, Adsense CTR, and lower bounce rates I would be extremely grateful. Hopefully I will have something to offer WF in the future.
I've been running the site for a few months now. I've been experimenting a lot with ad placement and which ads get better CTR. So far my CTR is a mere 1% or thereabouts. The link bar is a vast improvement. A lot more clicks off that bar since implementing it. I've tried in paragraph boxes (very bad CTR), in text banner ads (1% ctr text or image), bottom boxes (1% text or image). Sidebar has the same CTR, vertical ad has 2x CTR as a box. I'm running out of ideas to test.
Do want to join the war room, but need to raise cash first.
Oh, and one more thing. The slider on the homepage isn't working in Chrome or FF. I'd like to hire someone to fix it. Where do I even find such a person? Its some sort of jquery error and wordpress 3.2 thing.
