Using WordPress as a Website

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if you guys use wordpress as actual websites like a review site and not a blog with updated content. Is this bad for SEO?

It can be done... VERY well really..

There was a guy here not too long ago who had wordpress as a store type setting..

He achieved PR5 with it, so it can't be bad for SEO..

I can't remember his site though

Hi,

Many people use blogs, especially if they don't have hosting services or the capacity to build a web site. There are benefits to having a blog, including the ability to get picked up by Google quickly. When you ping, it sends out the word and you have almost instant traffic.

I've seen many blogs used strictly for reviews. In fact, I have one myself.

A word of caution!

Don't use Wordpress to provide reviews with links directly to an affiliate offer. My fitness blog got shut down because of it. I don't know if Blogger has the same restriction.

I haven't tried to do it myself, but someone said you can't put an opt-in form on a blog. That's probably not true, but you might want to check into that, too.

Oh, sorry. Yes, I forgot to mention it was on the free service.

As I said, I hadn't looked into the opt-in thing myself. It was just something I heard yesterday. It didn't make sense to me either that you couldn't add one.

I've had a Wordpress blog on my own domain for over a year and it has made a considerable difference in my traffic. Prior to adding it, my traffic was about 1/4 what it is now. Google loves the constantly updating content.

When I first added the blog, I didn't write keyword-focused posts. Once I did, I began to see improvement.

  I use Wordpress hosted on my server for all my mini-sites at the moment and it ranks brilliantly.
  
  Install the following plug-ins:
  - All-in-one SEO
  - Google XML Sitemap
  
  Also manually remove the list of servers to ping (Settings->Writing [at the bottom]) and then before your last post/edit of the day add them back in.
  
  This will stop you from pinging Google every time you make any change on the site and you will prevent you from being seen as a ping-spammer.
  
  I've seen in a number of places that the following list is better than just using the pingomatic server which is used by default, so that's what I use too:

  Yes! I have several websites that are powered by wordpress and look nothing like blogs. You can have a coder create custom template for you for usually less than $400 - $500. The benefit of this is easy content management. Have you ever tried making a 50-page site by hand using dreamweaver? Its a real pain in the ass, to say the very least.
  
  And no, don't worry about SEO. Quite the opposite, in fact. Google does seem to like wordpress as a CMS platform and won't penalize it in the SERPS one bit.

Wordpress is very good for SEO... mine outpoint most custom sites in its niche... There is a all-in-one seo pack plug-in.. great plug-in..
