To acquire a partner, or not?

Okay here's the deal.

I have an idea related to something that I have a lot of knowledge in.

But more than anything, I have passion for it and it highly interests me. I honestly don't have a huge list of people interested. And I also don't have any crazy marketing skills (even though I make good money online hehe)

I'm more of a "just do it" and "provide quality" kind of guy.

So my question is...

I know someone who has a very large list (upwards of 20,000), lots of marketing experience, and connections. This person would probably be able to push my idea pretty far.

But I'd have to give a large % away for something I have a huge passion and interest in.

I started thinking heavily about it.

And I kind of want to go in this alone because I think once people catch on, it'll sell like mad because they'll start to realize that it's something of very high value.

What do you think I should do?

Should I partner with someone that has a list, connections, and marketing skills. Or should I go in this alone because I have such high interest/passion?

My answer is yes, for sure. Course it's related you your specific case only, because I won't succeed without good connections and marketing skills. Every task can be performed better if it's distributed between professionals (everyone does it's own part).

      Haha.

Okay I'll be straight up. I don't have many connections and I'm succeeding just fine. I just want to toss out there that you don't HAVE to have connections + marketing skills to get an idea going that simply works

      Thanks for your reply.

Partnering up will make you infinitely more money, but it also requires a lot of trust. The knowledge gained from the relationship will be invaluable as well.

Will tell you honestly: don't get so mucky with an idea!

When you don't have the experience, go for it!

If you get someone who's having a load of experience and resources, I would say DON'T THINK TWICE: Build a relationship, understand the dynamics, live up to the expectations-you won't get a second chance.

JV's are crucial. They teach you how to be friends with entities.

Don't look at greed, look at the experience! It's worth more than Cents you'll make alone. I suffered because I went solo. Golden advice.

I think you should make your own list of pros and cons.

Then, go it alone until you are ready to partner. As long as you are concerned about percentage and control, etc you aren't ready for a partner - you will be giving some of that up.

Do you want a JV for promotional purposes - or a true partnership? Only you can make these decisions - it's your business and your product.

Take your time - decide for yourself - and if you go with a partner choose one with the same viewpoint and someone who works/thinks like you.

If the project is "my baby" keep it yourself. If it's going to be partnership or JV - have a written agreement between you.

Is it really an idea that *needs* a partner. Other people can always bring something to the table, but sometimes what they bring isn't worth the risk to the project or idea or your own reputation.

Certainly there's a lot of upside to partnering with people, and people with good reputations at JVs would be who I'd be looking for, but without a strong established network in particular fields, it's hard to know for sure, and you may be doing nothing more than guessing.

I'm generally more inclined to keep projects to myself and hire out the work I need done, but I (almost) never say never

If you have to ask the advice of others then you really don't want a partner. If you make good money online then you must have some marketing skills, or be able to pay for somebody elses marketing skills. I would go ahead without a partner and if it isn't working then try a JV.
