I'm looking for a little help with people experienced with ezines. I joined the Directory of Ezines and to say the least, I am underwelmed. I had heard very good things about this site, but I haven't found anything to be impressed about.

I don't know about the other niches but in the IM area, I have found many sites that no longer exist, redirect sites and just general junk sites.

They say they are in the process of cleaning up the site and support assures me that this is going to be a great site. For whatever reason, someone charging $200 for subscription to a site and telling you it is going to be a great site isn't reassuring.

I am wondering if someone has personal experience with the site and if I hang in there do you think that they will deliver what they promised?

Also, does anyone know of a similar site that actually might have quality ezine listings?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

This extremely interesting. My entire internet business is structured upon top quality article syndication, and up to now I've managed just fine by posting articles on Ezine Articles and also proactively seeking out likely syndication opportunities.

Funnily enough, I'd read a few positive references to DOE recently and I had been toying with the idea of joining up myself. Thanks to your post, I'm now having serious second thoughts.

One very good resource for syndication possibilities can be found here.

More observations from Warriors would be appreciated...

    Really? :p

I know about some other niches, but not about the IM area at all.

I've found them very useful indeed, and their customer support very good, I have to say.

But this may be unhelpful to you, if you want primarily the IM area and that's in a mess.

Will guesses really help? For what it's worth, I think they're nice and good people, and my guess is that they will, and you should give them some time.

Annie's BuzzBlogger link above is certainly an excellent one. I'm afraid I don't, apart from that. I could be wrong, but I suspect there may not be a direct equivalent/competitor to DOE, really.

Sorry, my answer really isn't very helpful to you at all.

I'll be interested to see what Paul Uhl and others say, if they see the thread and reply.

I agree Alexa, they were quick in getting back to me and said that yes they had had some problems and were in the process of fixing them. They won't commit to when the problems will be fixed though just a few weeks.

I want to believe that this will happen but I have been burned many times as I bet most people on this forum have.

I will probably hang in there.

I'm a member of DOE and Charlie Page, the owner is *awesome*... As are his products. You simply can't go wrong. If you're finding some out of date links, that'd be one of the reasons for the update he's doing ;-) And you can count on OVER delivery with Charlie, every time. Imo, with so many scams out there, it's products like this that we should do our best to support and be speaking highly of - giving them a fair chance. Being that a massive upgrade is coming, in all fairness I'd encourage you to come back and post your thoughts once it's finished and I'm sure it'll be a different story altogether

Thanks Bryan for the background from someone who is a member and has had good luck. Like I said before, I think I am going to hang in and have faith.

I will also be the first to come back here and say how impressed I am when they do clean it up.

            Hi.
I think Goldliger, Bryan, could have also stated that he was an affiliate of DOE. Would have been a bit more open. And also that Charlie promotes Bryans product.
Anyhoo. I also joined DOE a few weeks back on Bryans advice. I still can't find a decent ezine to place a solo ad in the IM niche. Extremely underwhelmed. All I keep reading is how it's going to be better, but when is this happening?
I asked a question of support, which apparently is Charlie himslef answering, and was basically told to put up with how the site is and it would change...soon...WHEN?
He must have been having a bad week.

              I disagree completely.

He had absolutely nothing to gain from his post and no financial incentive at all for making it.

If every ClickBank affiliate commented in every post they make about a product that they happen to be an affiliate for the product, that's what would come across as advertising/promotion.

It stands to reason, in an internet marketing forum, that some of the members who have knowledge relating to questions asked about specific items are going to be affiliates for those items.

Anyway, I'm sure Bryan's very grateful for the publicity you've chosen to give to the fact that he's an affiliate.

I was just saying that it would have been more open. How could you disagree. That's a fact, not an opinion.
Nor did I mention anything about financial gain. You seem to be talking about something else rather than the topic I was commenting on.

I do that, sometimes. You said "could" but clearly you implied "should" (otherwise why say it at all?!), and it was that implication from which I was really dissenting. Sorry if I should have said that expressly.

Again, not in exactly those words, but you referred to it. What other significance did you intend to draw attention to, by commenting on his being an affiliate? Why did you decide to post to tell everyone?

                      How good is it?

Also, what is the average price to have solo ad/article submitted to the ezine?

A big DITTO to what goldliger said. I joined DOE when it was owned by a women living in the Northeast part of the US. I don't remember her name but DOE has always been top notch. That was $200 well spent.

I'm a life time member, and I've never been anything but impressed with Charlie Page and his crew.

Given the turnover in the IM field, it's not surprising that so many ezines come and go. I'm glad it's not me trying to keep up with it.

Back when "you've got mail!" was cute and ezines were the current shiny object, everyone and their cousins had at least one. DOE was one of the places everyone went to list their shiny new ezine, because they were gonna get rich selling ads. When they found out that finding or creating decent content was tougher than it looked, thousands of ezines were abandoned.

            Sound familiar?

From what I know of Charlie, hanging in will turn out to be a good decision...

I have been using the DOE almost daily for neary 15 years, and have recommended it quite often. Of course IM is not one of my niches, but this niche has never been known for vendor longevity.

I've heard lots of positive feed back especially from highly successful IM'ers in the past- I personally have never used it.

I prefer to put in the extra work and syndicate my content throughout the web...

Why not do your own serach on the web for popular IM websites, blogs, etc and see if you can either post an add with them or possibly become a guest blogger, (just an idea for you)

However - thanks for the heads up...

I would say that IM niche is messed up almost everywhere... I'm surprised how good Warrior Forum works and still doing pretty good job about keeping it all clean...

About DOE, it's a great tool which can be very useful, but you need to think outside the box, or at least to keep away from IM niche as much as possible for you... or accept that you will need to do some work on your part in selecting good ezines from their database...

But my advice would be to spend that time in searching other money making niches there... it's not all about IM niche

The directory of ezines is 13 years old
Of course there will be useless links in there

For an updated list of ezines it would be better to search google for 'ezines'

DOE is very good. It obviously depends on your niche, We are in several niches, but have gotten lots of good use from this.

I have gotten articles syndicated, and built relationships from using it too. That can be powerful if done the right now. Leverage can be powerful and you can make good money too, if you have the right service / offer and get it out there infront of the right now. DOE is a great way to do that, but like I said you have to have everyting in place first. I have had pretty good success with them.

I have been a DOE member for probably 7 or 8 years. The IM niche has always been one of their worst categories, but like has already been mentioned that is in large part due to the high rollover rate in IM.

my suggestion would be to check out the JV section of WF. then get on a few of the lists of people doing ad swaps and selling solo ads.

use a throw away email address since you will quickly get yourself on a lot of lists, but you will also be getting yourself in position to build a list of other IM related list owners who accept swaps, solo ads, and j offers.

As someone who owns a competitor site that is similar to DOE I can honestly say that keeping the list clean takes an enormous amount of effort. I spend countless hours updating my site every month so I can emphasize with DEO when they have to do a cleanup.

Yeah but DOE has been saying they're going to redo the site for awhile now. Charlie Page seems like a great guy, and I'm waiting for the site to go on a monthly fee so I can give it a shot. However, the delay in getting this done doesn't seem right. He may not be working as hard as you. I'd be interested to know what you're site is.

I've emailed today Charlie Page to ask him why so many ezines are out of date. He replied after a few hours saying that they are redoing the website, and it's going to be completed very soon.

I don't know what this very soon means, but I believe it might not take more than a month.

But just as others have pointed out, I have not been using it for the IM niche, so I could not speak from experience there.

I'm not a member so I can't comment. I've found a DIY method for uncovering syndication sources. Find a bunch of authors who are popular in your market. The more the better. Do a search on these folks. Go 20 pages or more deep into Google if you keep getting relative hits.

Notice every site that has these people's articles posted. Then hit those sites up with your syndication pitch. I've been doing very well with this method. It's time consuming but effective.

Another thing you can do is while you're on each of these sites check for a "links" or link partner section. Guess what? More similar sites likely to accept syndicated stuff.

And finally, do a search for Online magazines__________. Fill in the blank with your market. Most of the hits I got from that search willingly accept syndicated content. After my first submission I've actually been getting requests from some of the sites I found this way. I'm also uncovering JV possibilites and other opportunities as I float along the Information Highway.

Hey, now using dopey jargon like dat can really date a guy.

I've never heard of "Directory of Ezines," but there are plenty of ezine directories available by just Googling them so I don't understand the issue with this.
