Hey guys,
Would anyone here have a guest blogging request email template that they would be kind enough to share?

Im looking for something that I can send to site owners requesting a guest blog on their site.

Come on, my muscle head friend from down under... If you can write a guest blog post, then surely you can arrange a few words for a introduction letter!

    LOL @Brian!

Johnny, it sounds like you're thinking too much about it. What would you want to see if you were the blog owner? You probably wouldn't expect War and Peace, and you probably wouldn't appreciate a bunch of phony butt-kissing. All you would probably expect would be a short, to-the-point email that stated what the guest author has to offer. If, as the blog owner, you could see a benefit for your readers, that's all the matters.

Well, you really don't need to write a long copy. Just mention that you browsed through the site and you feel that you should be publish a guest post in the blog. Suggest a topic, mention how many links and where (Inside the body or author resource box) you want and to which site. That should do the trick.

    Thanks.

    OK, I'm game.

Personalize the template to suit -- this is vital. READ the blog you're targeting, then be honest. To get an opportunity to write a guest post on a major blog you need to be sincere, above all.

Template you can customize to suit each blog:

    Hi ______ (blog owner)

I've been reading _______ (blog name.) Congratulations on ________ (whatever. Add a couple of points which show you've read the blog, and that you understand the audience.)

It occurred to me that your readers might be interested in a post on _______ (whatever. Make sure that this is honest. You REALLY think the readers would be interested.)

I'd love to share my insights with your readers in a post titled "_________" (the title of your guest blog post.)

In the post, I'll discuss __________ (three points you'll discuss.)

The post will be _____ (number of words.)

You can see examples of my writing style at __________ (your own blog, or other.)

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely

    _________ (your name.)

Blogs which accept guest posts will usually tell you what you'll receive in return for your post: a link to the site of your choice with your byline. You won't generally be able to add self-serving links within the post.

    Good luck with it. :-)

    Angela

Here is an actual email I sent to a blog owner asking if I could write for them...it got a positive response.

Fill in the blanks with the appropriate info, obviously.

    =========================================

    Greetings __First Name Goes Here__________,

My name is Ashly and I have enjoyed reading your ___Topic/Niche__________ blog for some time now. As a fellow writer and Kindle publishing enthusiast, I would like to first thank you for the sheer volume of useful resources you have compiled for authors in your blog and across the web. I dig your style!

I noticed that you feature some guest postings from other authors in your blog on occasion. Is this something that you are still open to allowing? The reason I ask is because I also blog about self-publishing and author promotion on my blog, among other topics. Assuming you are willing to consider a guest post submission, would you mind letting me know what type of post you are currently most interested in for your blog?

Being a long time reader at this point, I feel that I have a pretty good grasp on the type of stuff your readers might enjoy and find helpful. However, I was just hoping to touch base with you to find out what you think would be best.

If this isn't something you are interested in, then no worries! Thank you for your time and consideration, either way.

I look forward to your response and keep up the great work!

    Sincerely,
    Ashly Lorenzana

I'll point out one common characteristic of both Angela's and Ashly's templates - humility.

I get more than a few queries that sound like the writer is doing me a favor by guest posting, and tell me that they know my audience will 'love' their post.

Wrong approach. It's my blog/site, my audience, and my decision about what they may or may not love. If you're getting the vibe that, as a publisher, I've got a healthy ego, you're right. Guilty as charged.

Tell me what you have to offer, and why you think my audience will benefit from it. If you have other writing available, include a link so I can check you out. Finally, recognize that even if I agree to read your guest post, I still have veto power on running it.

Don't get me wrong. I like good guest posts. If I didn't, I wouldn't accept them. Good guest posts add value and save me work filling that spot. Just remember, it's my call.
