Student needing ideas...

Hello everyone !

I'm a new warrior here and thus I shall present myself. I'm a 19 years old student and I'm studying mathematics. I want to pursue my studies abroad where the cost of living is a lot higher than here in my country, after I finish 2 years here. But there's one problem : not enough money. I searched for scholarships but the government gives scholarships only for projects which are in its own interests : economy or engineering studies. Unfortunately, my project doesn't fit in because I plan to study pure mathematics...

So I thought of doing something myself to earn the necessary money. I thought about part-time jobs, but they are not very well developed here in my country. I then got the idea of creating a website and monetizing it to get at least between 200$ and 300$ per month, but I don't have any idea on how exactly I'm going to monetize it...

I already blogged many years ago about seo and programming and put AdSense ads on my blogs, but I didn't earn much ( too much competition on these themes ), then I stopped blogging.

I'm considering now to start a new blog ( or another form of website ) in order to monetize it. As I only master maths, I think I'm going to write on that subject. I'm sure AdSense won't work, because there aren't many attracting ads targeted at a maths audience. I never tried affiliates programs and I don't know if it will work with my niche...

Any suggestions please ?

Thanks :-)

ps : I already know most of what it is to know about seo
ps 2 : I know it's going to be hard, I didn't request anything easy, instant or free

    Hey Amgara!

Welcome to the Forum! As you can see I'm pretty new around here, even though I've been "in IM" for quite a long time.

If you are here, I guess you've already heard about Affiliate Marketing!?

And if you are passionnate about Maths! You could easily write about this subject (article, report, blog or website...) direct people to a course or a book about maths (maybe one that you created) that they could buy!

There are tons of great resources to get started in affiliate marketing, and since you have experience with SEO, you really are ahead of a lot of "beginners".

Open an AdMob account and sign up on Peerfly and Clickbank. Start posting mobile optimized ads for CPA offers with high CR and also click bank products with recurring income. Make sure to target the appropriate demographics and you can start with $15 per day campaigns. That should get you started making money quickly.

I agree with Kindsvater. You can develop your own website and tutor via Skype or a similar program or look for a position with an online tutoring company like tutor.com. There are quite a few online tutoring companies out there.

You could also try writing short "how to" reports on math-related subjects, either on how to do the math itself or on how to study for math exams and so on. I don't know how well they'd sell, but it's worth a shot. Look around at the math-related books and ebooks on the market to get an idea of what might be profitable.

Here's a suggestion (maybe you won't like it, though).

If you find there's no market for your interest (mathematics) and you want to make money, maybe you should find a market that's hungry for something else and cater to them?

Or even better, maybe you have a secondary interest that has a hungry market - or at least where you can monetize using Adsense. Maybe, something for students living abroad or in the country where you'll be studying.

Being good at math is one of the best skills you can have.

There are always people who need tutoring in math, because it seems like 80% of the world absolutely hates it.

See if your college's athletic department is in need of tutors. I know when I played a sport in college, we could get a tutor for free any time we wished. Of course, the tutor was paid well by the athletic department.

      Don't buy WSOs.

Tutor people. Write articles. Try affilliate products and article marketing instead of AdSense.

300 a month is totally not hard (six months? really?) if you provide a useful service. Good luck!

This method contains a nice and remixed version of above answers of Kindsvater and A.Green.

2- Create a full professional website
3- Offer your service in the way of packages like- $20 for learning basics or etc. ( i dont know about maths so make nice package's.
4- Offer them coaching online through SKYPE !!
    5- Get hard CASH

PM me or drop me an email from my profile if you need further help

I would say if possible stick with what you love. Tutoring is not a bad idea.

If you build a blog website and want to start selling stuff...you are going to need to have an idea of what you are selling before you start selling it.

In other words. Get a plan together.

If you can write a book on math help and sell it online using your own site and the methods you will learn here for marketing...it might do well.

If you offer a regular service like tutoring you are going to get pinned down with time to Skype everyone that you work for in tutoring.

Regardless, if you get into a web site mode of Internet Marketing anything you will need to learn how to drive traffic to your product, service or subscription. In order to do that you need to learn how to do SEO. Search Engine Optimization.

Once you know how to do SEO you can pretty much do almost anything you want online. If you rank at the top of Google for your niche...what else is there to worry about? Well...content and presentation of your product is pretty important too. So it is a good idea to get your product idea down first...what will you sell.

      1. What will you sell?
      2. How will you sell it?
      3. How will your website look?
      4. What will be the data flow on your website?
      5. How will you drive people to your sales page?
      6. How will your people pay for your product or service?

Once you answer these questions you can start driving traffic to your site en masse. Hopefully you learn that along the way.

SEO is a means to an end. SEO is a means to almost any end.

Learning SEO changed my whole perspective on Internet Marketing...
rather than get caught up in one or another latest product launch "promising fantastic results", learn how to launch anything you want...by properly executing Search Engine Optimization.

Get ready for a learning curve. You can check my sig for some tools I have successfully used to build my own businesses online.

      Best of luck to you.

It all stems from what you are passionate about, building the business around it and getting to know every area of the internet where you can brand your business and get supporters and followers. It takes some work but hey building a business does. I have tried affiliate products in smaller niches and they do work, still takes some work in driving targeted traffic to the blogs but hey it was a small income which was put back into my work to advertise more. A penny could make a pound, is that a saying? Maybe I have heard it before!!

Thank you all for your replies :-)

I can't really do tutoring/coaching in real life because in my country, almost all parents seek for tutors with at least a bachelor's degree and I'm two years far from that... And even though I'm good at mathematics, I have no experience at all in teaching them. However, I can help with homeworks and I already do it for free in an online forum, it makes people there happy, me too, and it would piss me off a little if I turned "paid only" ( I'm the kind of guy who just can't share knowledge for money ), and my free help was not without profit : I won a great audience at the forum where I help and they started to trust me ( I even became a moderator there ).

I thought about creating free content about the subject that I master and I'm passionate about ( mathematics ) with articles about how to approach problems, classical problems and their detailed solutions, free courses in algebra and calculus, cheat sheets for those who are in a hurry and want only the most important things to know for their exam ( of course, not be used to cheat on exams ) etc... Targeted traffic would be no problem, because I already got a huge user base ( the forum where I'm a moderator ) and seo skills. Then I would monetize that withs ads or an affiliate program.

Here are some ideas I came up with so far :

    - Using Amazon's affiliate program and putting good books related to algebra or calculus ( or even reviewing them, because I've already worked with many of those books ).
    - Contacting teachers who are doing coaching in maths, and offer them to put an ad for them on my site in exchange of a monthly fee ( depends on how successful my website would be, but I already did some keyword research and it might work well ). Of course, this would be after I finished working on getting traffic to my website.

I also found out that I can write about electricity ( I don't master it yet, but I have enough knowledge to do at high-school level ), and maybe a mini-niche about memorizing, building vocabulary, list of SRS's ( space repetition system ), techniques I use to memorize etc...

It may take a while but your biggest markets will be primarily the US and the UK. Do some research on the syllibus these countrys use for high schools then write a series of ebooks eg. "Algebra made simple" and write a 15/20 page ebook for each subject and sell them for a few dollars each or as a bundle. You can advertise on school/college websites, forums and on your own website (with knowledge of seo a huge plus) when you start making some cash learn all about paid advertising and re-invest. Not a quick option but you sound smart and will pay on the long run.
    Good luck buddy

I am also a student and found it really difficult to make money from adsense and affiliate marketing for years. But I am now making money through freelancing and the amount I'm making now is just enough to bear my own food, educational and other extra costs, needless to say that I am still working with adsense and affiliate marketing as diversification of income sources online are always important. So lets join a site like odesk or freelancer/elance etc and get some tasks and make money.Initially it may be difficult to win the project but If you are focused and confident enough then it wouldn't take too much time.

You said you used to blog about programming and you are good at maths. This screams to me that you could offer your programming service to fellow Warriors. Althought this is going to take a while to set up, i.e setting up a thread in the Warriors for hire section... building up your reputation... finding customers. In the long run you can quite easily turn this into a viable business alowing you the freedom to travel the world. Depending on your outlook you could even begin to employ staff via freelance.com and take on more work.

Hope this has sparked another idea for you
