Squidoo As A Landing Page?

Hi all,

I'm just getting started in soem new niches and wanted to know your thoughts on using free squidoo pages as landing pages for ppc campaigns.

Personally, to me, they seem perfect. They automatically have decent colour schemes and you can stick a newsletter sign up box in them.

I've tried starting a ppc campaign direct to clickbank products and my Quality Score was really low, so i'm thinking of using a landing page as a "pre-sell" page and then directing traffic through my AFF links.

What do you think about this idea?

I wouldn't use squidoo as a landing page for ppc. There are too many distractions on squidoo pages that will lower your conversions.

      Can you offer any tips?

Would you just use a blank document on a domain?

I wouldn't abuse squidoo like that.

Yes it does support "list building" but you'll have to use special tricks.

search "squidoo tricks" to find out how to add them. It's quite simple.

      I can't post URL's as i have less then 15 posts here.

In my personal opinion, Squidoo is a poor choice for a landing page because
of all the distractions. There are way too many links to click on once you
      arrive there.

You're better off using a squeeze page on your own domain and hosting or
at worst, using a blogger blog. There are still some distractions there but
      not as many.

There are too many distractions on squidoo for it to be used as a landing page- not with all the other options available.

Here's a quality place to build your landing pages for free and without any ads.

This will allow you to experiment with landing pages, your sales funnel and run tests before you decide to purchase a related hosting account.

Can someone please explain why you can't/shouldn't use all of the above?

Sure, using Squidoo may result in a "lower" sales rate...However, not using it results in a sales rate of 0% on Squidoo.

I agree, Squidoo or any other 3rd party resource shouldn't be your only option and you definetly need to have a page on your own hosting. But this isn't an "either/or" decision, and should be all of the above.

Peeps... we REALLY shouldn't perpetuate this discussion.. this should be in the PPC forum..

Having said that... I will carry on with it too.. shame on me..

Kurt.. I think the reason being is that the OP asked about pay per click.. Google crucifies people for quality score when they have squidoo as a landing page.

        (Thanks Jay...)

Now let me change my answer to: Don't do that!

I know this is in the wrong section.

But am i right in thinking a landing page can be just a single page with very little text on it?

Or would having a fully fledged website give a better quality score?

A fully fledged website would be more likely to keep your visitors around. I know that if I stumble across a page with very little text on it, I'm probably going to click out. Get your own domain and create a decent site for it, with relevant content that your visitors will enjoy reading.

While this may well be noble in concept, it doesn't really address the OP's question. He wasn't asking how to keep visitors around, he wants to run a PPC campaign and needs to produce results.

I pretty much follow JayExtreme's advice (although I don't have a Contact page) where I have 3 - 5 pages that are HIGHLY targeted for my keywords (my keyword lists are short) and I always have QS of 8/10 - 9/10. I also don't have a lot of content, just enough to let Google know what my site is about and drive visitors to my offer.

Yeah.. this is SPOT on here (except for the extra E in my name..lol), you don't need a fully pumped out authority site.. just standard setup, layout and highly relevant content.. gets you a great QS every time..

To Answer the Op's Question.... You should not use a squidoo lens as a landing page. They are not designed to be landing pages and there are a lot of other options for this. However, if for some reason the world is coming to an end and there are Absolutely No Other Ways......it would be your only option...and you need something!

@Jay......... Word! The PPC Forum is much better for this! how ya been anyway?

....Suidoo Rocks. But its too busy ....and for this application is not the right fit.

If you do not have a website or are just testing and don't want to get into a lot of cash outlay, set up a blogger blog. Hop over to

Free Blogger Templates & Premium WordPress Themes | eBlog Templates

grab a free Template download. I recommend this one for a landing page

Dirtylicious Blogger Template | eBlog Templates

                • Make sure you delete all of the side bar links.
                • Make your first post .....Your Landing Page Text, Optin, Headers, Pics, Order Button etc.
                • IMPORTANT, Make sure the Title of the Post includes your keyword and is Descriptive. This will become a .html file and you want to make sure the url is SEO Friendly....This is the perfect place to Include one of your Long Tail Keywords. Try to keep Your Headline 5 words or less. IE http : // YourSite.com/LoseWeightNowl You can get more descriptive in your subheading
                • Publish Post.....start driving traffic.

To take it a step further, You can start to create more pages / Landing Pages. These would be a post. Which would become a .html Page which
is partly what Google is looking for.

Each one of these pages could be another landing page or a landing page to another product, although you should try to keep everything relevent.
This begins building you a site that is deep and keeps your quality score in check.

A nice option is ...that you can Set Your First Post, Your Main Offer as static. In other words, you can make it so that is the first page your visitors see when they come to your site.

All of your other pages would only be seen if they arrive directly on them, or if you keep the
                blogroll on the main page.

You can promote your other pages as well. It would simply be your Site name /YOUR POST TITLE.

                Cheers

          YES.

You need a fully fledged website to get a good quality score..

          Including but not exclusively:

          Sitemap
          Privacy Policy
          Contact Page

And all other pages MUST be relevant to the keywords...

    you'll be trouble because:
1)google favours paid hosting websites than free platforms such as blogger, squidoo etc)(i don't y is it so but it is, may be they are biased)
2)google gives "relevant content" a lot of importance when determining your quality score, so if you are thinking about little to no content on a webpage, think again.
3)i agree with TLTHELIBERATOR your landing page should not deviate the user from its sole purpose(lead capture or pre sell- sell purchase cycle), so definitely don't do it!
4)instead try using squidoo and other free hosting platforms as a traffic funnel for your landing page and try to optimize it (host on your server run ppc on this one), you'll see better results!
    enjoy!
