What is your ONE favorite traffic strategy?

Hi folks!

I need some advice from you good people here on the forum...

Like a lot of people I'm building my business around a full time job. After some general site admin I can spend aabout an hour per night on traffic.

My question is: what one traffic strategy do you think is the most time-efficient?

Thank you in advance,

Simon

Can't speak for everyone here but I'll bet most are going to say don't just do one thing. With one hour you can easily budget your time to do a few things instead of just one thing for your traffic. It takes more than just one thing anyways

Yeah, I don't think one thing will cut it for the long term. I use multiple. Right now I am mainly using a Blog Network (Traffic Kaboom) and Magic Submitter. Magic Sumbitter covers submission to article directories, social bookmarking sites, video sites, micro blogs, RSS etc... so there's a lot of diversity there.

If you twisted my arm for just one I would personally go with Traffic Kaboom. (side note: it's closed for a few weeks...bummer. I think they are doing some upgrades and will reopen before long. It's not cheap though).

But I plan on trying ArticleRanks and Authority Link Network. I hear good things and want to test them. ALN is free and there is a free starter option for ArticleRanks.

My favourite is organic traffic from the search engines using SEO techniques. This has the added bonus that a lot of the techniques you are using for off page SEO can also drive traffic, like social bookmarking, article marketing etc. You only have an hour a day, so you need to structure your time well. Maybe one day write an article and submit it. Another day submit your site to a few directories. Another day submit to social sites. (I find reddit and stumbleupon give me the most visitors), The next day create a squidoo lens and so on. While all these things individually will drive some traffic, combined the backlinks they generate will boost your rankings in the search engines for a more long term traffic plan. Just my 2 cents

I'm also building a list next to my day-job, and there isn't just one good traffic method. Try a few different ones, but not too many because it becomes overwhelming.
In my calendar I've blocked out 2 hours every day to perform traffic generating tasks. For example:
    Monday 7-9pm Article writing
    Tuesday 7-9pm Forum posting
    Wednesday 7-9pm Youtube video posting
    You get my drift...

    Hi Simon,

Article syndication works best for me.

Because it enables me to attract highly targeted traffic without my having to do the targeting myself, and because it gives me a business model which isn't dependent on Google for most of its traffic (if you're dependent on Google, then - as so many Warriors have found out to their great cost, this year - your whole business is only ever one algorithm-change away from a potential disaster).

Out of all the potential traffic sources there are, what people call "organic" traffic from search engines (funny word for it, really) is actually the most precarious and least reliable in the long-term, and ultimately you're not really in control of your own business, if you depend on it.

If you like security and stability, and want to build up something that can eventually replace that full-time job, I'd strongly suggest you look for a business model that doesn't depend on the permanent grace and goodwill of Google and its constant algorithm-changes, of which more have been promised.

    Good luck!

      Alexa,

Are you just talking article directory submissions? Or something in addition to this?'

Thanks a lot, and have a good day,

Time efficient traffic generating system is PPC. Either Adwords or similar ones.

If you do not want to pay for your traffic then I would say Forum Posting and Social Networking will be your fastest traffic source.

I understand where you coming from as well. I had 2 full time day jobs (I still do since I am a workaholic) when I started my IM journey and was able to make it a success in about a year or so.

However, I dont think there is one best and most effective method that would work for anyone. What may work for me, may not work for you and vice verse.

I would say, pick a few method, work on them and as you perfect them , pick up a few more and so on. Though I would suggest on working on SEO traffic methods as they are more targeted and can last longer if you do it correctly. And don't forget that it will take some time to get there.

And like Alexa said above, article syndication, pdf syndication, video syndication, blog syndication, podcast syndication.

All these are simply repurposing your initial resource, an article, into more formats for more traffic.

And you still end up achieving some SEO for free google traffic.

      Hi Simon,

If you want to build a stable business than you must diversify your traffic sources !!

Please don't count fully on SEO traffic since you're just one algorithm change away from a disaster. Big G can wipe you out overnight.

I rely on Youtube traffic (that's huge) and Affiliate generated sales.

Finding high quality JV partners and helping each other out, especially if those partners have customers that are interested in your products/services. It's the best way of doing business and traffic generation.

My favorite is using SEO to drive traffic. I used to build backlinks manually but I got burned out so I decided then to outsource the task. I usually find good backlink builders in Fiverr.

I'm also exploring Youtube traffic. I don't have a Youtube channel but I recently JV with a guy who had like a million channel views and I plan to experiment with this traffic source to build a list in some non-IM related niche.

For me, adswaps bring the most traffic but you can't abuse them. I usually only do one every 2-3 weeks and only after giving away plenty of quality free content.

I vote solo ads - so long as you are careful about who you go with.

The most time-efficient would have to be PPC. And, what's super about this method is that you get an indicative idea immediately whether or not your copy, site. landing page etc is converting. Instead of waiting weeks or months to find out how well your articles and blogs are doing, with PPC you find out now.

I'm now into combining social/2.0 with SEO. I like the potential that social marketing can generate traffic NOW while also helping SEO in the long run. It's a 2-for-1 in that it gives two different potential benefits.

I'd have to narrow it down to article syndication. How could you not love people exposing your article to their viewers for FREE.

The thought of free, targeted traffic, not to mention having your articles work for you, instead of vise versa, is an appealing one.

    My one favorite strategy is:

Know what people are searching for SPECIFICALLY when needing a product like yours,
what keywords. ( Eg. people needing dating advice are searching pickup lines , not "dating advice" )

Then create an optimized site for those keywords - and link your sales page from it.

Throw all your ranking efforts into that intermediary site ( YouTube, Blogs, etc )

--- Soon, that site will rank high and you'll get people to see your offer.
