My personal belief is that the more specific the site, the less traffic you have to get to make sales.

So I would say keep the site on one niche or even a micro niche.

However, if you are creating an authority site or a news site, you will be all over the place.

I suggest you do some keyword research and find something that you can do well in that doesn't have a lot of competition because then you can always do it again and again and again.

One topic that can have subtopics. Too many different broad topics & you'll have several problems, including a shotgun style messy looking site & problems with SEO, targeted traffic & monetization. Keep it simple. If you want to get into different niches you're better off making different sites for them.

Thanks ... given a "site" doesnt cost much more for an add-on domain... compared to bricks and mortar businesses ... why not ?

Specialization produces higher conversion rates, and more topics produce higher traffic volume.

The right answer is to pick a niche that produces the highest conversion rates at a level of traffic that makes it worth your time to develop it.

The correct answer will be different for every website in every niche.

Open a blogshop can earn faster money compare to adsense and affiliate ads.
Or you maybe sell ads place that put in your blog, like for example, skyscraper around 400 USD per month .

If you are going to be working in a really profitable niche like weight loss, dating, make money or something like that, I would recommend getting a general, generic domain name so that you can promote multiple products on the same site. Not only will it save you money, but larger niche sites get rewarded with more traffic and stuff as they age. You will be able to outrank other sites much easier and won't need to do a bunch of backlinking because it will happen naturally.

There's also another benefit. If you ever decide to do so, you can "flip" or sell your blog for 10 or 12 times its monthly earnings if you ever need a large some of cash. Oh, you should include both product reviews and related info about stuff going on in your niche because you will get traffic from both. Also, don't put adsense on pages or posts where you are promoting affiliate products because it takes visitors away from your site.

    Good luck,
    Joey

It depends on the niche you choose. Some niches can generate a lot of traffic while others not so much, which will then entail you to have micro niche topics within the main one. Whatever you choose there should be a consistency throughout your site...

There is an interesting related thread here about choosing niche keywords: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...word-tool.html

I also strongly believe a keyword domain focused on one specific topic will yield better results than a generic site covering multiple topics.

The way I think of it is that it's a lot easier to target keywords with article marketing that only has little searches as there isn't strong competition. But still searches. If you are consistently blogging 5 days a week and also putting out an article to a directory or a distribution network then that little traffic will expand as your site grows. So instead of going for a site with a lot of traffic for one keyword term, it might be better to get small search volume and grow it daily.

Not saying it's going to be fast but I think it would be better to focus on getting traffic to one website than what it would be to work with multiple sites on different topics. That will just distract you. In my opinion.

I prefer to target a niche with one blog. I can target other niches with their own blogs. I feel that the traffic and conversions for a really targeted blog are better, but then there are plenty of blogs that are successful with a much broader focus, like Shoemoney, ProBlogger, etc.

I think a single niche is advisable when you want to start your online venture. This will help you focus on one niche alone. Also, your traffic will be targeted.
