Need some help with offline project.

I took my car to the dealer today to get fixed and while I was waiting I started talking to one of the main sales guys there. He told me he just moved to this new dealership last month and brought his database of previous customers with him. He has them all in print and was very interested when I told him about building an email list and adding those people.

Now he asked me some questions about if I can set it up to where we can send certain people who are interested in Suv's etc seperate emails. \

My question is this, If I use getresponse is there a way for me to build him a database with all the different personal info etc. like what types of cars the prospect is interested etc? Is that a good idea or would you just build him one big email list and market to them?

Is it even a good idea for him to have an email list like that and how can we best monetize it?

My next question is about outsourcing web design. I have a meeting with someone today who wants me to build him a site. I am going to outsource it here on the WF and my question is. Since I have never done this before, does the web designer also add the content to the website and if so should I be asking the business owner for the content he wants on his site or should I figure that part out myself?

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Cheers

    Hi Jan:

Regarding the database, I don't use Get Response - so I don't know what their database capabilities are - but I would just bring the information into Excel and sort from there.

As far as what the web designer needs - I expect the client to give me a .jpg or .gif of their logo, in addition to any copy for their website. I charge more if I need to do a lot of typing, or if I need to have a logo created.

It sounds like you're doing great - just relax. If I don't know something I just say "hey, good question. I will look into that and get back to you."

Thanks for the help Linda. I know now that the business owner provides the copy and the logo etc. I'll probably have someone design me a header and footer for his site and attempt doing it myself or I'll just outsource the whole deal from the beginning.

      Cheers

The only thing that I do have a history with is marketing to car owners...

I ran an Auto care shop for 7 years. In my way of thinking, take the SUV customers and market whatever your prospect offers to them, because their wife might have a Lexus and the daughter an old Honda.

IMHO, don't try to segment your list in the auto repair niche, because their are so any of us that have multiple vehicles.

    Just my .02 cents

Jan, I don't use GetResponse, either, so I can't give you a definitive answer.

See if you can add any custom form fields when setting up the list.

For example, I could add data fields for date of purchase, model, other vehicles owned, or any other pertinent data.

Then I could send a general message to the whole list, or carve out a slice of it.

        For example...

"Hi, Bob. How's that Hummer treating you? Seems like you've had it a couple of years now, right?

If you're like most drivers, you have around xx,xxx miles on the odometer. If so, you're due for some scheduled maintenance. Just bring that bad boy in to [Dealer's Name] and we'll check it out for you. Oh, and we'll do an oil change and lube for $5.00 while your here..."

        FWIW...

I have to agree. I understand that with Aweber you can make
separate lists for separate emails but I don't think it's a good
idea here. A real estate agent I know has the saying "buyers
are liars" because after he goes through the trouble of finding
out exactly what they are looking for and tracking down all the
listings that fit that description, they go and buy something
      completely different.

There can't be many things that don't change, but nothing
changes faster than a person's mind.
