Need help with keyword research!!

Hi guys!

I have been struggling with keyword research, I think I'm doing everything right except getting the right keywords to rank for.

But I think I'm doing better now with the research, so my main question would be;

How many keywords should I concentrate on first?

I read some where else that you should start with 15-20 keywords, is this correct?

I think it would be best to focus on only 5 keywords at a time until you rank well for them, before getting more keywords?

What's your opinion?

I have been working with 20 - 25 keywords and it's overwhelming.

Please give me some advice on how many keywords is good to start with?

Thanks in advance guys!

There is no definitive number, but when done properly, it's possible to rank for multiple keywords with one article, so you have to write less.

Rank as many keywords as you are comfortable ranking at first.

If you aren't comfortable with it at all then just target one keyword and see it to the top of Google. Then take on a couple more, etc.

It also depends on how many pages you have, you might have a hard time ranking one page for 30 keywords, whereas it might be a little easier to rank 15-20 pages for this amount of keywords.

It really all depends on what you are comfortable with and how much you are willing to outsource.

Also if you are going for high competition keywords a lot more work will be involved in ranking each one.

Now that you have a bit of info on the number of keywords to target, how are you going with the actual selection of keywords?

Ie; A lot of my clients come to me wanting to rank insanely competitive keywords overnight, this just isn't possible. You need to find keywords that are easy enough for you to rank with the systems you have in place.

You also need to ensure those keywords are relative and can will convert your visitors to your call to action.

      Thanks for your advice!

Well I ranked well for 2 -3 of the keywords I was using. They got my site to rank in the first page of the Google results for each keyword. But Unfortunately I found out the keywords I ranked for and worked for had really low daily traffic. You could say I did really bad when I researched these keywords, of course it is my first time and it took me about 6 months to rank well.

I guess now all I have to do is find better keywords and repeat the process!

I just got a free tool "Traffic Travis" it is helping me find better keywords!

I'm still learning so thank you very much for your advice!

    Hey Freddy...

Dude, its pointless trying to get your head around 25 keywords if you dont know what you're doing. Best to start with a much SMALLER list until you understand the process entirely, and THEN move on to a bigger list.

What exactly are you stuck with?

Well I didn't know how many keywords should I focus on first, but now I'm getting an idea of what to do first. I think organization is key when it comes to dealing with a bunch of keywords.

So I think I'm going to start with 5 - 10 Keywords and I'll see what happens from there!

      Thanks for your advice!!

You have to crawl before you can walk. Learn exactly what it takes to rank for a few keywords and then scale up from there. Not all keywords are going to be the same as far as effort goes, obviously, but you'll have a good grasp of what you're capable of once you test the waters a bit.

The main thing is focus, and if you can focus better on lesser keywords than do so...but it sounds like your heading in the right direction.

Maybe you could check out what key words your main competition is using and see why it works for them.

Mate you should target 5-6 keywords which are the main keywords(keywords which are having very high traffic on them) and you have to target them for long period of time because the will be very competitive. With that you should try some long-tail keywords say around 10 keywords these are easy to rank and will produce u quick traffic.

Whats important here, amongst other things is establishing a keyword list, then creating categories for those keywords.

This will help you with site structuring, navigation, and offsite optimization.

Work on 3 at a time and if you can afford it use Senuke and spend time learning how to use it. This will help with you rankings.
