Which Social Networking sites are most important?

From your experience, which social networking sites do you feel are most important for your business?

I'm trying to make myself as accessible as possible, so ideally would like to be a part of all of the main social networking sites. I currently have a:

twitter account
facebook account
myspace account

but that's pretty much the extent of it. Are there others that you would rank in your top 5?

Thanks

Brad

StumbleUpon brings us the most traffic. Digg would be important if we weren't banned, but I spend a lot of time on the site for other people.

Smaller but effective is Tipd and EarnersClub.net. Not a lot of traffic, but pretty well focused in our niche. Same with Sphinn.

And we had our first really big spike from Twitter today.

Trick is not to go overboard though. Having a solid profile and contact/friend list or whatever on 1-2 sites is better than barely updating 5+ social profiles.

Thanks to all for the input on favorite sites, however, it might also be helpful to know what products/services are best delivered on the respective sites. I'm guessing they have very different audiences...

You hit the nail on the head. It seems that different social bookmarking sites work better for different niches.

I have four blogs and get traffic from different social bookmarking sites on each of them.

The two that they all seem to have in common, though, are Digg and Stumbleupon.

Isn't this question depend on whatever niche you are in? OR which ever site is relevant enough to give you ton of traffic?

I think there are several that are pretty universal. Like Stumbleupon and Digg.

Also don't forget YouTube! For getting indexed it's the greatest!

      Plus, Yahoo 360 and Bookmarks.

      Google Bookmarks.

As a "young people" myself, I have observed that whenever older people take an interest in things that we do (i.e. facebook, our fave tv shows, our fave music), it suddenly takes a plunge on the coolness scale.

Back on topic, I've noticed that some posters have completely ignored Brad's question of how to make himself more accessible. Please stop posting all the social bookmarking sites you can think of and answer the darn question. My answer: Facebook and Twitter, but NOT Myspace. Myspace is a community which lost popularity long ago and isn't a word that is ever used in "young people circles". Facebook is great, except I would want to keep my personal profile (for friends and relatives) separate from my business profile. Too much work for me

    Good question

I have got most value from linkedin, perfect for headhunting the type of client that you want to be working with if you know how to work groups and networking

I find it great for both writing and recruitment work

Look into getting into open networking groups and connecting with 'super connectors' there (people with huge connections).

Then if you are trying to find people with specific skill sets use the advanced search function to search them out and get in contact with them. e.g. if you are looking for affiliates to promote your product you can search for phrases such as internet marketers, affiliate marketers etc.

there are also groups covering a wide range of subjects that you can use like forums, and contact with anyone that you are in the same group as.

perfect for headhunting any type of person or skill set you want

Kaboodle is more or less a Social shopping website. It allows users (& merchants) to add products via a link on your Browser Toolbar to the sytem, you can also create favourites, lists & wishlists, which are all viewable to the public. You can see what other people are buying & even make friends with people who have similar buying interests.

More & more people are now using Kaboodle to shop & find deals on certain products, & since the content is user generated they can often come across some mighty fine deals (that wouldn't normally be found on paid shopping comparison websites).

This technique is pretty simple, we're going to create some lists on Kaboodle relating to some products on one of our eBay Affiliate Websites. Or if you're a merchant with physical stock or dropshipping stock you can start by adding products from your Ecommerce Store.

    I would say
    Twitter
    Yuwie
    Digg
    Youtube
Direct Matches if you can afford it.

I use Myspace, but they make it tough to use any links. Twitter is growing way fast. Youtube is huge and search engines love their videos, Also use other video sites.

My space, Face book, Twitter. Digg these are all great social media for building relationships. Business works better thru social media, provided you keep the media honest and allow the customer to get to know you better as a person.

I agree with everything above. I might add folkd.com - Enrich your websurfing experience. I have had recent cases of it generating lots of back links to several sites I've "folkd". Might be an anomoly, but I've been using it with vigor lately.
