Just launched my portfolio...need feedback

Hey All,

I just launched my web design / development portfolio and would love to get some feedback. There are not really any pieces in place from an IM standpoint...but I do plan on morphing the site to accomondate things like gathering names/emails for future newsletters..promoting side products/services I am involved with, etc...

Indianapolis web design | development | freelance | user experience | usability | SEO | Absolute Bica
Absolutebica.com

Thoughts?

p.s. I did some nameserver changes last night so in some places..the old design might show up..but hopefully it works for all of you.

Oh, and the themes are time based on the server. You can change a theme in the top right.

Thanks,
Bryan

Ah now I see the blue -- Much better. Love it! Is that a theme of your creation? Or one that you got and modified. Nice!

You are a CSS monster, Bryan. Nice work, man!

I think I dig the "night" theme best.

    Best,

Yea, I can. I mean, a lot of sites I work on are wordpress in nature.

Absolute Bica uses wordpress for the site CMS...though the "content" of my pages are NOT setup to be edited within WP since I am anal about the code getting rewritten by the editor...but I use WP to handle the friendly URL's, I have the All in One SEO Plugin installed, and various other things.

Very attractive site, Bryan. How did you do that hover-over effect on your sample sites thumbnails, CSS? Very impressive.

The design is fabulous. You may want to consider including a favicon for your website though, I think it makes a site look more professional.

Okay I love the night theme too...graphic is Hot!

I would move "The Work" section up to the very top of the column. That's the most important part of a portfolio so it should be front and center.

      Otherwise...pretty sweet!

    Nice site! Really impressed!

    Btw, simple question.
How do you do the "Theme-Selector" thing.. i mean we can choose the theme we want.
Is it by using Jquery or something?

    Yea,

So if you are a brand new user...it will load the appropriate theme based on time of day on the server.

So if its 7pm...it should load the night theme. If you go and change the theme, it sets a cookie with the theme you chose. It will maintain that theme for a month or something I think. Then, next time you come it reads IF you have that cookie and it loads that by default.

It uses Jquery. I have done some code consolidation and packing so much of it might not be viewable without running it through an unpacker.

Made a few minor updates... moved the "work" on the homepage up to the top...and made the navigation stand out a little better with a nice hover.

The night theme looks great and really stands out. After spending a few minutes on your site, however, my eyes are going buggy. I find sites where the text is light on dark background makes it hard to read. Just my 2 cents.

Nice site Bryan, it's a wonderful "show piece" to showcase your work. Gotta' love the changing themes.

I'm still trying to figure out what BICA means. According to google it stands for Biologically Inspired Cognitive Architectures! :-)

Do you wish to brand yourself? If so, then it need to give your name somewhere in the site. The only name I could find was in the testimonials when they referred to "Bryan."

Damnit..I need to make sure style.php is a real page

But...yea if you are in IE6 or lower...you get that fun message. plus the site looks like crap because IE6 doesn't understand transparent PNG's.

Things look odd on this page? It's because you are using an old version of Internet Explorer. I highly suggest you upgrade to a more competent web browser
such as Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Apple's Safari, or even Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7. Thanks.

80%. Really. Wow, last time I checked according to Browser Statistics as of December 2008

IE6 was 19% of the market. If ANYTHING, 80% of the people visiting my site will be JUST fine. If people are using old outdated browsers, then giving them that message is a benefit IMO. I am trying to make their life easier by getting them to upgrade their experience on the web.
