WHAT?! Where's that Warrior Spirit?

I can't believe myself lately.

I've only JUST began to take action not even a month ago, and I'm already losing steam. I've allowed myself to get depressed, and discouraged.

Almost without even realizing it, I'm allowing my procrastination and my doubts and fears steal my dreams from me.

Almost.

I've come too far to give up now. I'm not going to quit.

Wish me luck. It's going to be a long night.

I'd love to hear any advice or words of encouragement you might have. I could use all the help I can get.

    Joshua,

Those two sentences above make all the difference in the world between a quitter and a winner. Hang onto those - fiercely.

Write them down on a post it (or several) and put it where you'll see it every day. Although I would change the second sentence to "I am succeeding!" (Present tense and positive.)

Sorry I don't have more brilliant words at the moment but I've just got a second and wanted to give you this tidbit of encouragement!

I like to make little list of what I want to do and as I do them check them off and give myself little rewards. That way, I can see my progress even when I haven't gotten all I want done yet. Otherwise, you just look at the end result and if you aren't there yet, it can be discouraging.

I've built offline businesses where there was legal issues, money, building, decorating, hiring and training staff, etc. etc. etc and all that for months before you could even open the doors and hope to make a any money.

So when I'm doing things online, I think well, I'm not investing as much money and I actually have the possibility of making money even as I'm still "building" the business and that has helped me all along.

You can do it. Just DON'T give up.

You still feel like this even though you're earning consistent income every month, dadamson?

        Of course.

Just because you earn consistent income every month it doesn't mean that all your problems go away.

There always things you want to improve on, opportunities you miss out on, and things to manage that can seem like it's all too much.

But when you look at the big picture you realize that you will reach your goals with persistance, never give up.

          Exactly.

The trick is to take things one step at a time, and increase your sights as time goes by. Right now, I'm intent on earning my first $100. After that, I'll expect to increase that to $1,000. It will be thrilling beyond words though, to get that first commission.

          Thanks for your responses everyone.

I seem to get discouraged every few days. For me, when I start to "loose Steam" I go looking for a new niche. Once I find one, I get a burst of energy again. Usually pulling an all nighter catching up on everything I had been putting off so i can get started on the new project.

But if I earn the dream income of $5000 every month, I feel that I could deflect any problem because I'm confident in my earning capability. I think it's nice to face problems when you're earning that much. You can sustain yourself.

One post in a forum a few years ago said 7 words that I have pasted to my wall at eye level.

"If you give up now it is all toast"

You get so far and learn so much that the only way is forward. The alternative is to give up, meaning that you have wasted your time (and money). Keep that big picture in mind and remember that by even doing one thing a day towards your business you are closer to achieving your end goal.

Yo Josh... welcome to reality, bro.

This biz can be a real catch 22 at times... actually most times.

Here's a tip I learnt that made a profound diff to the way I do things:

Spend equal time on each area of your biz.

Namely it's products, traffic and marketing.

So divide your time into 3 and spend 1/3 on each area daily.

    You'll be amazed.

    Sal

The key to being the 5% who succeed in IM and not the 95% who fail isn't in working 20 hour days, it's in working 40 hour weeks.

    Over and over again.

Have to agree with this. I'm holding down a 9-5 job while doing this on the side, and sometimes it just seems like I'm going nowhere with my IM project because I have so little time for it.

But I keep doing something every week; set up the autoresponder and get it working, find new traffic sources, finish the first of my 'products'...

It's been two months and a bit since I started, and I have to say that while my progress would be a lot faster if I had more time to put in, sometimes I look back and see how far I've come, while refining and refreshing my plans all the time. I haven't earned a single cent, but that's because all my gears aren't in place yet. When they're done (1st December deadline), I'll be pushing those cogs and ramping up the momentum, and I'll finally get to see if the system will earn me some money.

It's a long hard road to success, but I've got a good map, and it's always been a marathon, not a race. I'll get there.

I have this "weird" system in place for days like these:

Option A) When I feel normal, I do my usual work.
Option B) When I wake up bored/stressed/annoyed etc I work more technical stuff, something more mechanical and less creative.

Try it out. It's simple but very effective to keep us outside that "bad" loop, while being productive.

    Best wishes mate.

Somewhere in my reading I came across the term "barriers to entry" as a reference to the problems typically encountered when starting a given type of business.

I've done a lot of different businesses and techniques and have found that many of them work well for awhile and then it gets much harder to make the same money because everyone starts doing the same thing! The problem with these businesses is that there were not enough barriers to entry.

Now when problems crop up, I always visualize a steeplechase horse race. Have you ever seen a film of one of these, where the rider and horse run around the track, but they also have to jump over large hedges, some with water hazards on the other side. The horses are racing neck and neck up to the barrier, but then some jump over and others get caught on it and are out of the race.

That is what a problem or frustration is - its one of those steeplechase barriers.

When I hit a problem I see it as an opportunity. I find myself thinking "I wonder how much of my competition is going to be taken out by this barrier?". Many people will get discouraged when things get tough and some will quit, but the more barriers there are, the more valuable your service will be, because there will be fewer people providing that service.

Frustrations and problems can be good things, if you think about them the right way.

    Hi Joshua...

I think that's a common challenge that MANY people face.

It's easy to take a new and exciting idea and work with it -- fully expecting positive, profitable results on the other side. When you're in that enthusiastic state and working towards a goal -- you're focusing in the right direction, on exactly where you want to go.

But when we take our eyes off the ball, that's when we get into trouble.

It's at this point that we get derailed and more often than not, it's because we're looking at the puny results produced. Doubt sets in as the initial enthusiasm soon fades. The more frustrated/disappointed/upset we get -- the more we buy into the negativity. In mere moments, it can spiral out of control.

The trick is of course to refocus on the reward and accept it as your inevitable result. That's NOT to say a shift in strategy or technique isn't needed sometimes. But if you "go until" you must arrive eventually. Don't let doubts and fears undo all the progress you've made. Keep your eye on the prize and your feet moving forward.

    Robert

    Remember WHY.

    * Why did you begin?
    * Why did you stick with it?
    * Why do you want to keep on?
    * Why does it matter if you fail?
    * Why are you afraid?

    ... but most of all,

    Why MUST you succeed?

An accountant who works with non-profits once taught
me a valuable lesson. He said:

"When I tot up figures in rows and columns for my clients,
I don't see numbers. I see the faces of the children I'm
    working to help!"

    Powerful.

SEE the result of what you're working for.

You won't ever want to give up (at least not for long!)

    All success
