I can give you my thoughts... there is no reason why you couldn't start your blog to do both mailing list building and product selling... just be sure to have a quality blog, a solid call to action in both parts - mailing list building and product selling...
I would say that you have a big competition in "setting up your home based business" niche, so you really need to focus on something different and interesting... also, there is a lot of people who are doing reselling of books related to that subject... therefore, I think you should go with something new and fresh that is created by yourself... if you don't have a fresh idea and fresh product it will be hard for you to succeed, although it can be done...

I know it sounds a bit obvious but try roaming around the forum, ask questions, find out what works and what doesnt, find your one target and take massive action!

You are in the right place. There is lots of great free information on here.

With your background, you are already ahead of many newbies. When I was new, I had no technical skill. However, I do have a lot of offline business experience.

The main thing I concentrated in my offline business was to give good service and do things that make you money.

Seem basic but you would amazed at how many people don't do this. They just want to make a lot of money but don't think of the customer or giving good service.

My advice for you is what I tell all newbies. Don't spend any money and don't get caught up in all the flashy headlines promising tons of money in a week or something.

This is a business and has to be built like one.

The only exception to the don't spend money is to join the War Room right away for the one time lifetime fee. There is a lot more valuable free stuff in there.

In the Make Money forum, there are free ebooks on every subject and they all require no opt it to get.

Also, many of the members offer a lot of very valuable (not junk) free stuff.

I recommend that you start with keyword research to find a niche that doesn't have so much competition. Use the free Google Keyword Tool for that and always check exact match.

Then once you have a niche, get a domain and set up a squeeze page to build a list.

Once you have that going, add a blog to the domain too. Then use the blog to post articles and send people to your squeeze page.

There are lots of ways to make money online, but include building a list into it because then you can market over and over again to those people.

I consider the two most difficult parts for most people the keyword research to find a good niche and then once the site is up, getting targetted traffic.

I've gotten both those down so once you do that, you can create one site, build it up, get traffic and then move on to another niche and do it again and again.

Use the search function on this forum to search for specifics and read, read, read.

You could be going really quickly, actually, if you have the time and take action.

Another great reply . Think I will be spending a lot of time here in the future and hope to get to know you all better. I will set up a blog and build a list . What would people reccomend , a Wordpress blog or something differant .

wordpress is definatley your best option, ease of use and tons of good plug-ins, If you're going to build a list you will need a squeeze theme for wordpress, I know its extra expense but if you join the war room you can get free templates and themes and will save you on the long run! Be sure to set your list up right, if you rush it and do it wrong it will turn out to be a complete waste of time! All the info you need is right here on the forum!

First, welcome, about your idea, it's true that everything "making money" and "Starting a hone business" related is pretty competitive, but if you have a plan, and can invest in your business, you can succeed.

Everything evolves around your offer, your traffic, and your conversions.

About blogging... you need a blog, this is not a choice.

Also, in this niche, you'd better have a solid sales funnel in place if you want to succeed.

As for the academy, I don't know it.
