Both work. Sorry if you were looking for a clear-cut answer, but there isn't.

There isn't any definite answer to that, but if you told us what niche you were thinking of and what you're goal was for the site we may be able to help more. Are you trying to make money from memberships, collect email addresses, have product reviews, etc.?

      from product reviews.

For product reviews you could buy a domain for each but it would be more expensive. If you're wanting to just list a ton of Amazon products, for example, then you could just run a mega site using a software like ShopperPress.

    They both work.

I have a website with 100+ pages and a website with only 2 pages.

They both make the same amount of money each month.

It really just depends on the amount of traffic and how much effort you put into each website.

For the 100 page website, I built a lot of content, but no traffic. For the 2 page website, I built a ton of traffic, but minimal pages.

Are you wanting to run an autoblog automatically posting reviews or are you okay with writing your own?

I like this idea. I run both. Try using smaller sites to feed your larger site.

A smaller site will generate profits faster but a larger site is easier to brand.

Just run the bigger site on one IP and link it in the footer to all the smaller sites that are on a different IP.

I vote for this option.. I preffer micro niche sites, but just because they bring faster profit..

Combination is the best choice.. a lot of micro sites to support authority site

I'm just starting off with niche sites so I understand where you are coming from OP but you should be starting off with small sites that can earn money faster because of lower competition. Then as you get better, get more sites and get some stable income THEN expand the sites if you can or start build bigger ones.

Benefits of starting small and growing:

          Easier (less content, less managing)
Teaches you how to create sites and then you can expand
Bit faster (less competition, less time to rank on first page of Google which means earning money faster)

I think both serve a certain purpose and should be part of your overall strategy of course dependent on what you business goals are etc.

Micro niche sites can be a very attractive option for those starting out and there is no reason why these small niche sites cannot be built out into large niche sites as you grow in confidence or indeed as sales come in unless you focus those sites too narrowly. My advice would be to take the best of both worlds, start a few narrowly based micro niche sites which are easy to set up but also set your goal on owning some larger sites to balance your portfolio.

Everyone's right. You want both in your portfolio. They serve different purposes and each one is a viable tool in your toolbox.

Both should be in your online gameplan, You should have the following: authority site, blog, squeeze page, instant commission product, etc...

Just start with a blog as the hub.

One isn't better than the other, each has there separate advantages and disadvantages. If you are just starting out maybe begin with a micro niche site just to get a feel for the whole site building and promotion process. Once you get a feel for things you could add a larger site to the mix.

I prefer niche sites because they easy to rank.. Just make on page SEO, installed necessary plugins.. do ping and meta submission... you'll see your site on page 1-3 within hours

Caching, All-in-One SEO, Sitemaps, sharing buttons, and preferrably something that will automatically post links to your new posts across the Internet at different social networks.

Both of them do work. One works really fast but the results may not be sustained. The other takes some time to work but works for the longer term.
