Is this the place for an Aweber question?

In brief, after clicking the link in the "Thanks for subscribing" email, the customer is taken straight to a page requiring a password - but not to the email that gives them the password - so they have no way of knowing what it is!

Essentially, I need the "Thanks for subscribing" email to generate the second email saying "Here's your password", which will then go to the page requiring the password. I have listened to their video, I have contacted via chat (phone is not available on weekends) and that person was an idiot - she never understood the question, so I thought I'd try here! I have a feeling it's a really easy solution - I'm just not seeing it.

Thanks,
Nancy

I'd try chat again and hope you get another person.

I asked her, and she said she was the only one working on the weekends! So I told her that I was saving a copy of our chat and would contact someone on Monday with a complaint. Normally I wouldn't bother - you expect bad service. But for what they charge, I think they should at least have [U]two[U] people on on the weekends!

        Yeah, I agree with that.

Sorry dude. Don't let it ruin your weekend. Move on to something else (unless by chance another warrior chimes in with the answer).

Thanks to everyone - time to move on with my day!

If you are using a generic password, you can have that message say "thanks for subscribing, please check your inbox to confirm your subscription. You will then be emailed a password"

Or, on the confirmation message page you can say "thanks for confirming, here is your password"

If you are using some other software that generates different passwords, then you need to see if that is linked with aweber some how and I have no idea what your set up would be.

If you are talking about your own aweber sign up, didn't you just set up the password when you signed up.

If you need the password set up and you have confirmed, just click on forgot password and the reset will be sent to you in an email and then you can set your password.

If you are talking about your list and your clients signing up, just save the password that they set up on your site as a variable and then send them out their sign up information in the very first email you send them after the confirmation in your autoresponder with the sign up information in it via the variable you saved it in. Set the time to send as 0, so that it goes out immediately.

BTW, if your situation is the second one above, that is nothing to do with the aweber service, that is about you own campaign and program and you would be expected to know how to do that, I would think.

No wonder the customer service lady couldn't help you.

However, aweber is so great with advice, they some times have training in their knowledge base about how to use their services even though it isn't anything to do with their service.

Nancy, you will want to create a followup email for this, and on the password page have a message that says "please check your inbox for the password" You can either use a generic password they can change later, or will have to have a custom PHP script generate the random password at the time of optin and then pass to a custom field on aweber to be used as {!password} .. note that you can also add a custom password field in your opt-in form as well.
