Never say never. The industry you're in changes so fast. The rate of change on the internet in ONE week is equivalent to 10 years of change in another industry.

What I'm saying is, it is not unlikely that you could wake up in a few months and be making nothing. The internet could change drastically, websites may become virtual reality rooms, Adsense could die, Online marketing could change so much that you'd need to play catch-up and may even be left behind.

      Never say never.

(and to be honest - I guarantee that whatever activity you're doing online now - you will not be doing it in 5 years time - not just because you move on to other things, but because the speed of change which the internet industry is mercy to).

I "don't mind" having a job if circumstances call for it, but I'm trying to develop the kind of self-sufficiency I would need to survive and even thrive without one. I'm a freelancer and an entrepreneur at heart.

I don't have a job, don't want one, and am building up my Internet marketing income quickly by working for myself.
    I don't have a job because:
    * It doesn't fit in with the goals I have and my IM income is getting better and better
    * Health reasons

I quit my job earlier than expected (May this year) because of health reasons. Because of my health, it was nearly impossible for me to even work on IM (or do anything else) outside of my job. That was very distressing. I felt like I was at a standstill.

So even though I wasn't making much money in IM, I quit. I still live with my parents so I had that advantage I guess. For a while there, it was difficult because I ran out of money yet still have to pay for board, food, vet bills, etc. I'm past that stage now and have money.

I am self employed, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a job.

I don't have a boss, but that doesn't mean that I don't work ten times harder than if somebody that made a little more than me was breathing down my neck like a power hungry bitch.

You might need to add a category for my answer.

    Do I want a job.

    Hell No, I am unemployable.

Do I need a job... tough one there, perhaps temporarily, but no plans to need one long-term.

Having been recently laid off, I have changed my entire online focus, and with any luck, won't be looking back... but rather forward to establishing and implementing a solid online income, if I can survive until Jan/Feb.

    To Be Continued...

I haven't had a "job" since January 4th, 2010 and I'm proud of that. It was the best eye opening experience I ever had and since then I started working online making a very decent living.

If the circumstances did arise where I needed a job however, I would instead invent that job. I wouldn't want to work for a company like the ones I was employed at again.

I don't see myself going back to the situation, but if the internet crashes or suddenly I can't continue working online, I'll always make sure I have a backup plan. The internet has opened my eyes to this.

There are things I like about a job in the U.S.- the benefits, the friendships you can build at work, the stability of income, etc.

I have been out of a job for over a year, and was just getting excited about making money online when a job literally found me a few days ago. At first I became sort of happy about it, because the company allows employees to telework up to 4 days a week. Then, I found out, you can do that only after you've been with the company a year and then only if you achieve a certain rating on your annual review.

The thought of "annual review" grossed me out. It made me remember all the things I don't like about day jobs...the politics, the bureacracy, etc.

Furthermore, when you lose a day job, then you have to deal with all the stigma of going through interviews, having credit checks, explaining work gaps, etc.

If there is anyway I can find to make a living without resorting to a "job", I would do it- in a heartbeat.

I love what I do too much.

I haven't had a job in years... not since college back in 2007. Of course, that is because I decided to get married and become a homemaker. Thing is, when the kids are at school things can get pretty boring without a hobby and money gets tight, so I started learning about IM and it has become a total joy. I enjoy it, I get lost in it from time to time, and my husband no longer has to beg for overtime so we can pay the bills.

I like having some work outside of the house. It drives me nuts to sit here by myself every day all day. Not cut out for it. That said - I like to be fussy about what I do offline. I hate traditional hours. Don't even talk to me about 5/8's or 9 to 5.

I've got my eye on a certification that will allow me to either work for a company or do consulting, however I wish to work it. It will transfer around different industries, but I want to get into eco-tourism. Love the heck out of tourism. Never feels like work - it's just paid socialization. I also will always continue making products and manning my main website no matter what, though. Full time IM to me is just as much of a job as anything else because it's not that much fun. Sales has never been even a remote interest. I like making products, though. So a little of this and a little of that is the perfect way for me.

I'm broke, fed up and 100 percent discouraged with IM. Tired of all the hype and lies from con men touting the latest way to make a gazillion dollars. I would love to make money from home - but obviously this doesn't work. Google can pull the rug out from under you at any moment for any reason. They take away clicks on a whim - even if they are legit. They should be investigated for fraud themselves. They hide the actual payout to webmasters. Well, that's where you went horribly wrong. You're just not cut out for running a business - you are an employee through and through.

The fact that you have the 'time working = payment' mentality shows this. Running a business isn't the same as paid labor like a job where you get paid to work from 9 to 5.

Do you think ANY business in the world knows exactly how much they're going to get paid? (well, I guess you could probably predict it fairly accurate.... but what if a client doesn't pay up, for example).

      Enjoy the workforce.

I learned my lesson early on when I worked for a bank as a salesman of IRA and retirement accounts (this was a LONG time ago). I figured out a way to project the additional savings in graphic terms to people about to retire and closed just about every sale. There was a max on the commission plan and it got to where I would just record sales from rollover IRAs on the first few days of the month and hit the max right away.

This brought huge deposits of stable money to the bank and I was almost out earning the president. Can you guess what there reaction was? Right...they fired me because I refused to spend 9 to 5 in the office every day after making my month's worth of sales, even though that was not in the job description.

Most people have a job for "security", and that is what my friends at the bank told me when I left. They went out of business two years later. So much for security.

When you are on your own you have the freedom to win or fail on your own. You can go broke, but you can also make huge money without anyone to tell you it is too much!

I'm 23, and, I can honestly say, no, I don't want a job. I've got goals for myself, and just need a little cash and time to get there, but, I want to do things on my terms. I've got some plans for myself, one of which is to own a web design company, the other is to dabble on internet marketing on the side, and, maybe doing a little domaining here and there .

I'm also pretty good with computers (repairing and such), even with those skills though, I could never see myself working for the likes of Geek Squad, or Staples, etc.

It was Steve Job's Stanford commencement speech that I saw in 2006-ish/early 2007 before I graduated (I was going to start a career as a PC Tech), and it just hit me "Do I really want to be working for someone else?..", so, I took a year off school and figured things out, and here I am.

I still remember my boss' jaw dropping when I gave my notice on my last job. That was in 1986 and he lectured me on the security of being employed. That company soon went out of business. In fact every company I've ever worked for, except Sears, has now gone out of business! So much for security!

REAL security is being able to depend on yourself for your own income. When times get tough I can work smarter and harder, if I need to. I don't need to sit there for 40 hours a week waiting for a layoff notice.

I've had more jobs than I can remember - seriously, someone will be talking about working at something and I'll think "oh yeah I did that for a bit".
The only one I ever even liked was being an outdoor pursuits instructor at a childrens charity (climbing, sailing, canoeing, archery...) - went to help out for a few months, stayed 12 years
But everything changes and they lost the fundamental ethos of the place in a bid to replace a deficit in funding by becoming more commercial and I was out.

Ive been job free for 5 years now and love it ( though the wife occasionaly turns boss on me if she thinks I'm slacking!) but I have to say last year I tried offline work - website building and SEO for local companies - after a major Google slap, and hated it. It was too much like being back in a job. It wasn't for me but I'm sure others would take to it.

I have worked full time online since 2005 , it's not for everyone but I enjoy the freedom of working my own hours. As with most self employed jobs you will have great months and quiet periods so it's important to understand that as often you can be waiting months on payment from affiliate networks which can be frustating.

Most friends and family are happy to work in a steady job and some folks would miss the interaction you get working in an office job.
