will PLF work in this niche?

Hey there, I was wondering can product launch formula work well in electronic gadgets niche like ipods etc.

The reason I ask this question is because all of these products are popular already so what angle can be taken?

Here's the latest (and final) video that Jeff just put out in which he answers questions like yours:

    Fireside Chat

    You might find that helpful.

In short though, yes. Jeff's system is about LAUNCHING products/services, regardless of the niche. As far as what angle can be taken... I know Jeff addresses it in his course (he mentions it in the video), but I don't know how much detail he goes into.

A couple of suggestions for your angle though:

    1. Specialize in serving a particular target market
    2. Offer unique bonuses for buying they can't get anywhere else

The promotional products industry is a good industry to look at to answer this question. Promotional products (like electronics) are commodities and prospects buy primarily on price. It's VERY difficult to stand out and be different in this market.

But some innovative marketers have crafted entire sales letters and marketing campaigns around their promotional products for their customers. So now their customers aren't buying just promotional products. They're buying marketing campaigns.

    See?

The more tightly you define your target market, the more you'll know about their wants and needs and the more likely it is that you can fill them.

Big box retailers and online stores like Walmart, Amazon.com and Best Buy probably have a virtual lock on the general electronics market and you probably can't compete in it. But there's lots of room for small businesses in specific niches if you're willing to get creative.

You could target musicians for instance and sell them lots of info on how to compose, record and distribute their music (and even make money from it) along with your iPods. In this example, you've essentially created an entirely NEW business by merging two different businesses into one.

Now THAT would be a great business and niche and the big box stores couldn't hope to compete with you. They're too large and general.

Yes, it's a more work, but it would be unique and probably highly profitable.

But if you're thinking of just retailing electronics like iPods in general though, I'd strongly advise against it. You can't compete on price (the big box retailers will underbid you every time) and you'll lose your shirt.

    Hope that helps!
