Help, still not made any money in over a year!

Hi everyone.

Well, after a year of trying to earn some money online, I seem to be like a hamster on a wheel, never going forward. I've got an adsense site that has struggled to get visitors and has earned me less than £2 in a year. I have an Amazon affiliate site that seems to have one product keyword on p1 of google but still I seem to get a maximum 30 visits per day, and more importantly, zero sales.
Tried promoting a clickbank product but even though I had an adwords voucher and used that to help promote, still no sales.
I appreciate that I am obviously doing many things wrong but don't really know what to do next.

I have written quite a few articles on Ezine and a couple of others. I use onlywire and social adr. Have dabbled with Squidoo and Hubpages but nothing seems to make any difference to the end result. I've tried various paid for seo efforts from here and places like Fiverr, with again , generally speaking little noticeable difference.
I stopped buying WSO's because I knew they were distracting me from whatever task I had in hand, and was constantly looking at the latest offers to part me from my money, most of which, if I'm honest seem to be fairly poor.
I've tried many courses, mainly from people who are on the Warrior Forum and seem to be genuine, but again largely to no avail.

My problem is that when I started a year ago, I did so in the hope that, like most people I would be able to go full time within 12 months as I knew that the industry I currently work in is in serious trouble, ( I'm self employed, and nowadays often only work for 4 or even 3 days a week!)

I feel like I've learned an awful lot, and feel like a sports pundit, in that I can talk a good game to friends and family, but when I'm sat in front of my computer it seems like the dream is out of reach.

Am I the type of person that will ultimately never make money online, or are we all capable if the right buttons are pressed ?
I really don't know which way to turn next, and hope that somebody can spare some time to give me a kick up the backside and point in a particular direction.

If you've got this far, thanks for taking the trouble to read my tale of woe,

Sounds to me you are lacking a little focus. Don't worry, it happens to the best of us. Some people, like you, are lucky and realize this early on in the game. Others waste years and years before it finally clicks.

Often we are so determined to make a go of this business and prove to others that it is possible that we end up having a stab at a number of different things at the same time in the hope one of them will stick. The problem with doing this is you end up with a bunch of half finished projects and disappointing results.

You will find success much quicker by just concentrating on ONE thing. All the things you mentioned you had tried are methods that other people are using right now to make a lot of money. They do work. That's not to say they will start producing money the first time you have a crack. If something doesn't work you adjust things and keep on doing so until it does work. The only difference between those who are already making money using those methods and you, is time. You need to give it time and be persistent.

The worst thing you can do is move on to another project.

You need to pick ONE thing. Probably the surest way to make money online is to build a list. Visit some popular forums in your niche and find out what people are looking for. What information or tools are they talking about? What problems do they have? Create something that solves a problem and then offer it for free in return for their email address. Build a list, build a relationship with that list, and the rest will follow. You've got to give a little to get a little.

If you concentrate on list building for the next 6 months it will be almost impossible for you to not make money. Focus on that one thing ONLY.

      I highly agree with Will

You seem like you are lacking focus....you are all over the place
      adwords, articles, amazon, clickbank products.

You need to focus on one thing and make it happen
also you mentioned you were getting 30 visit a day with your
amazon website. Thats a good start but if you want to make
some serious income online you need more traffic.

Gutsy post there, it's hard to go back over what you know to be true and still question how or from where to start over.

I did similar back tracks myself.

Sounds like you've got some broad experience already so I would suggest you go ahead and pick a marketing method that resonates with you. You know, something that you have an interest in learning more about - being just short of keen helps.

Then dig in and learn as you go, speed read, glean, talk to more people in your niche who are using your method. Get everything possible so you can answer all your questions one by one. You probably know that too but it worked for me (long version snipped for clarity).

My opinion? Like the previous posters say, you have to pick one. Just one method. Learn it, try it, follow through to the end. If it fails, KNOW why it happened and then fix it or... last resort, try another method. I think the saying is "fail fast", but it doesn't mean throw it out after one crappy result.

Oh and sometimes, do you notice this? there are offers, wso's etc that sound solid but you hang back to see reviews or take a breather to calm down, effectively stopping the buy button clickthrough? These are like moments of zen man Take the time to ask what you're doing hovering over that button, does that offer have what your focus is supposed to be on or is it another shiny piece?

I too believe that anyone can do this, including you if that's what you really want. We each have our own ways of succeeding; ultimately our time, money, methods of execution and levels of success are all different but yeah you need to dust off and focus even more now.

        All the best,
        db

      Hi Ron,

I will be the first to admit that I am in the same/similar situation.. Has [only] been 9 months or so for me, but I kind of gave myself 12 months to make a go of it before I am going to have to get a 'real' job I realise that it was never going to happen overnight, and have spent maybe $1000 so far which I consider my 'education'. (Have been living like a student too - working around the clock, being a tight-ass, eating poorly and not seeing the sun for days at a time!) This is ok with me since, when you think about it, people have to go to college etc for years for many career options. Anyway, I figure it's time to stop studying now, and start putting what I have learned/tested into practise.

I agree with WillR here, as this is one of my problems.. You could be doing everything right, and have ten projects 90% done, but until one is finished completely, you will never make any (decent) money.

Also couldn't agree more with this - List Building should be your number one priority! Why spend all that time getting customers, and then having to do it over-and-over again? When you build and look after your list properly, you have targeted customers/traffic to buy your stuff at the push of a button.

All the best with it, and see you at the top!

      Max.

      I totally agree with @WillR.
You MUST focus on one strategy and try to make money from it.
As WillR mentioned, the list building would be the first step you can go with.

This Internet marketing area is very competitive
so don't hurry and never give up.

Yikes. Well here's one rule you MUST follow...

ALWAYS spend LESS than you earn. And that way you can almost always be making money instead of losing.

Consider saving a large % of your income, reinvesting some, and donating some to your favorite charity. Then leave a bit for you to spend on whatever you like. Make sure savings is the largest % and stick by it!

    Good luck!

    Hi Ron,

I think you're going to make it because you have the can do attitude that no matter what you'r enot going to give up. That's what it's going to take. I know it can be a little frustrating to not make any money after a year of trying. Every successful marketer has this kind of story. It will be yours. Use it in your sales copy. I tried everything and I was broke for a year when I first started. Alot of people are going through the same thing. Decide what it is you want to do. What market do you want to help. Go around, here and there. What problem can you solve? give away a free report, audio or video in exchange for a name and email address. When you have 50 - 100 do an add swap in the warrior forum. Build you relationship with them with regular helpful content. crate a product to help them. have affiliates promote it for you. Strive to make every happy customer your next affiliate.

    Good luck.

    Best advice...

    A. Invest in your education. Buy some reputable courses, some books, training materials etc. This is a slower way, but definitely more affordable.

    B. Seek a mentor. The most efficent way of fast tracking the process. Whilst this will save you time, it will be much more expensive than the option above.

The question is, how much are you willing to invest in IM? Build a couple of micro niche sites and monetize them with Adsense or other offers. That should kick it off.

I've taken a little time to gather my thoughts and I think the way forward is for me to try and build a list.
I don't know whether I will continue in the Amazon niche because it's not really something I'm particularly interested in. Will spend the next few days reading and looking around to get some ideas.
Thanks again everyone, hopefully I'll soon be posting to tell you of my first proper sale.

I think that is a great idea. And maybe you can sell the niche sites or keep them and JV with someone for the income.

Well, you HAVE learned a lot. You know how to put up sites and how to post articles, etc. etc. etc.

Like has already been said, you need to start over and really focus.

Maybe you can use something you have already created and tweak it.

For example, if you have some micro blog websites that you have for adsense content and have articles directed to them, then I say you use those sites and create a different campaign for them.

Start to build a list for that niche from that site.

Get an autoresponder (I recommend aweber for many reasons and I've tried lots of them) put a opt in box on your site.

Give something away of value to get people to sign up to your list.

Create some follow up emails with some free valuable information.

Down the road, promote some high value item that will help them to your list.

Get more targetted traffic by using this free to War Room members:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/war-room...-networks.html

If you don't have a site or niche you can do this with, then that is ok, you can get a new domain and have a squeeze page up in no time and then build a list for that.

I had done a lot of things like you before and then by doing list building, in just a few months I've built not just one list in one niche, but several lists in several niches.

Concentrate on one until you get it making money and pretty much getting traffic on auto pilot to it and then move to another one.

Tweak things as needed like email subject lines when a certain email isn't getting opened.

That is enough basics for you here. I can't write my entire course in a forum post. ;-)

The main thing is YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Glad to hear you are thinking of building a list - way to go! With a list you can market again and again, clickbank, rapbank, WSOs, cpa, own products etc, etc. Manytimes it takes more than one pitch to make a sale and with a list you can do this. You don't need a big list, e.g. a list of 500 buyers can be better than 20,000 opportunity seekers.

Good luck in your future efforts.

    Hi there,
I am in that position as well, but for me it has been three years. I finally made a couple hundred this summer, but about two months later every thing stopped. No clicks or anything. Very weird. The clicks for the month haven't changed since the previous month. Such a letdown as I was beginning to think I was finally there. Even though family has not said anything, just become quiet when I talk about it, so undoubtedly think I am wasting time and money. I do have the time and I enjoy the challenge and have learned so much. I think I'm addicted but I would like to have something to show for all the hard work.
Thank you for the opportunity to vent. Gosh, I haven't even mentioned the money I have gone thru to find the magic bullet!
Actually, I am not on this thread to vent, I thought I'd check this adsense forum out to see if I could find some answers, things I haven't tried, etc.

    Hi Ron,
when i read your thread one thing instantly came to mind, i could here you saying i tried this and nobody bought anything, i tried that and out of 30 hits a day nobody bought anything !!

I want you to listen now because this is very important, stop thinking how much you can make, and start thinking how much you can give !! you should be saying out of those 30 people per day they all walk away with something, and a percentage of that 30 per day even decided they wanted more and i gave it to them, build that trust and build that list, if you are trying to sell from the outset you will fail, people want to buy but they do not like being sold to, so dont sell to them !!, give to them, build that trust, let them see that they can count on you for great content because trust me there will be someone else around the corner who is doing this, so make sure you do it better.

People like to procrastinate these days, times are tough, and the cash in their pockets did not get there very easily remember, so what you need to do is utilize this procrastination period to build a relationship instead of trying to sell.

You will make it i know, because you are passionate about it, otherwise you would not be talking to friends and family like you do. You simply have to understand a few simple rules in this game along with learning a few different skills, you do not get anything for nothing, even though we all see a lot of this stuff shoved in our faces. It takes hard work and determination and you will get there so keep at it ok.

    All the best,
    Steven.

There's one universal truth in Internet marketing and that is that you must get traffic. And not just any passing traffic, but the sort of traffic that has its credit card out and is ready to buy.

So my advice to you is to learn all about keyword research and SEO. If you can put your websites in front of the people who are looking for what you are selling, then you have a business.

This is not easy. It takes a deal of time, study and energy, but when it works, it's magic. And once you understand your market, you can leverage it and keep on earning.

    Good luck!
    Sarah

You need to concentrate on one thing. AdSense is great, but that's a slow build. Also, like all of IM, there's a big learning curve. It sounds like you've learned a lot, but haven't really found your niche. Why not consider marketing your knowledge to offline businesses? That's about the best way to make a lot of money fast for someone who's not yet an expert with any particular form of IM.

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. It does help to have someone in your corner. I think Glenda you were right on about the WSOs. I had to make up a list so I wound not forget what I had in my "supply cupboard". How sad is that. It really takes away your focus as you said you never really complete one thing. My daughter has also suggested a mentor. How do go about finding one? I think that is a good suggestion for newbies to do at the outset before they spend their money and can't afford it later. That's where I'm at now.
Writing was a good idea, but unfortunately that is not my forte. I have a great writer I use for submissions like Ezine.
I have been avoiding list building because I seem to have a terrible time with the techie part of it. Spent days and days trying to edit sales pages with Gimp and lost my work somewhere.
List Building and focus is where I'm at. If I could find a mentor for FileZilla (uploading files) and Gimp I would be all set. Does anyone have problems with those?

Thanks again for all the advice.. It is much appreciated.

If I were you, I would focus on one thing at a time instead of generically trying to "make money on the internet" through different strategies. Pick out one thing you really want to do and see if you can make it work.

You have too many things going at once. Its very hard to optimise them this way. Work on only one project at a time. Break it down into its seperate pieces, work on them one by one. At the end, start over, same project, until it is optomised. Then you will start to see it monitise. Its alot of work but you will be proud of it and probably never stop making it better. The best projects are the ones that have the most work put into them.
