Becoming An Authority In Your Niche

I'm venturing off into one of my first niches. I don't just want to be another drop of water in the ocean, I want to truly stand out as the leading content provider. My question to you is how do I go about becoming a authority? And what sites do you guys go to for tips on becoming an authority?

The best way to do so is provide original content stay clear of autoblogging type content and make sure you keep your content updated regularly and as you do this your site will become fuller and more authorative in the eyes of google as opposed to a quick affiliate site

One important thing that a lot of "gurus" leave out is to actually know a lot about the niche you're targeting. If you want to become an authority, then you need to be an authority first. Don't think I mean taking forever, though, to do that. And, don't let the "I don't know enough yet" thing to keep you from forging ahead. But you do have to have something to add to the conversation that hasn't already been said 1000 times. Next, target the top blogs, forums, etc, that serve your niche. Start commenting, liking on Facebook, becoming a useful member of that community. Do that and you'll be on your way.

ok so i guess i'm going to have to stay focused on reading on my topic everyday. Some people say it takes three years to become an expert. I might need to talk to some experts first before I can get there.

I'm not sure of the niche you're trying to get into but for example if you're making a review page, make a real reviews of the stuff you've tested by yourself. Only those articles will be really unique and useful.

You'll become an authority when not only Google but people will trust you. Work on your brand, your logo so visitors will recognize your website and will know that it is useful and trustworthy.

If you pick a niche that may already be a hobby or something your very interested in, you may find that your not far from already being an authority. Doing research on such topics can also feel more like fun and less like work. Its hard to beat someone at something they enjoy doing.

It's simple. If you want to be considered an authority, submit substantive and relevant articles to authoritative publications; both online and offline.

The absolute best place to get the fastest, most targeted traffic available is going to be from other blogs that are already getting that traffic. So contact other webmasters...Offer them free content in exchange for a link, or even just to send to their email list. Ad swaps are great for super fast traffic; obviously having some seed money will go a long way if you're willing to pay people to promote you to their own readership.

Otherwise, just try and cast your 'web presence net' out as wide as possible...Syndicate as much of your content as far as possible. You want to hit article directories, video sharing sites, doc sharing sites, social networks, social bookmarking sites and anything else you can think of.

It really comes down to basic marketing - Get as many people as possible to see your content, and then do your best to get as many of those people to keep coming back for more.

    Hope that helps,
    - Stephen
