help where did I go wrong?

Ok tried to start my own local directory I started 10 listing ie. plumbers in city, plasterers in city, electrician in city I optimized each listing with articles in side widget.

then I inter linked articles with keywords in main content.My onsite optimization was pretty good as I rank straight away on first page then I back linked with pr submission, profile links, blog comments which was scraping and adding A lot of the same comments on different blogs.

from the first page i have now gone to page 3 and I believe this aint the dance as its been 3 weeks.

The thing is I got my site up to a page rank of 3 in under 12 weeks but my rankings have dropped.

People say that it doesn't matter about the amount you backlink because you could hurt your competition by doing this to them.?

Can someone advice please

    I think most of the types of links you mentioned have been devalued and are not nearly as effective as they were prior to panda. I know that a lot of sites had a big drop in ranking around October 13/14 because of an additional algorithm update. This was most likely because of a devalue of certain types of links. Do the bulk links hurt you? long term I doubt it, they just don't help as much as they used to. Quality/relevant links will be much more valuable than scrapebox blasts.

    Maybe you could find a blog (or blogs) in the locality you're targeting and get a link from them. As a twist on just emailing asking for a link - maybe you could ask to submit a guest post about your new local directory service.

    I've also seen new sites get a grace period where they rank really well and then after a few weeks they "settle". So, don't despair, just get working on quality links.

      that's the description. the content on page is just under 600 words but i have six 500 words articles in sidebar with which interlink with one anther.
