Let's be real. I want to create a product for a video game.

If you know anything about me, you know I'm a huge gamer.

So I want to launch a product at the end of next year dedicated to a certain video game.

How would you go about monetizing video games if you had a massive list?

Let's just say I have a list of almost 50,000 people that will grow to over 250,000 by the end of next year.

How would monetizing that list with a product launch?

Is the list just people looking for information about the certain game or video gaming in general?

You might want to try and split the list from the general signups to people who are super excited about that specific game.

The people who are excited about the game are likely to purchase the game and you would have to focus their attention on why they should purchase your product.

For the general list, you might have to first explain to them why they should get the game before telling them why they should get your product.

BTW, do have any sort of video game forum?

Do a product launch sequence. Maybe a series of 3 videos before the launch. The first one sets the scene, the second one gives great but incomplete information, the third tells them more about the product. Then mail to your list when you put up the videos.

@Mike, I'd say 95% of the list will end up purchasing the game.

The question here is what type of product would gamers be interested.

For example Call of Duty is coming out with Call of Duty Elite which is only $5 a month (I'm not getting it).

But how would someone else, like me, convert those Call of Duty fans into money via a product dedicated to them?

I know of many ClickBank products in video games that do great, but I really want to see what Warriors have to say regarding this.

@Marculism, I am definitely going to do a product launch, but I'm more worried about what type of product launch I should target.

So to recap. Let's say I have a list of over 250,000 "Call of Duty" fanatics. How would you monetize them if you had to RIGHT NOW.

Well a big deciding factor would be whether they plan on console or PC cause that could have a lot of limitations for console. And their age, if they are playing console expect the typical 12 year old "hardcore" CoD gamer.

I would provide them tips on how to improve their game for free/paid. Then depending on what I haven't played CoD since the 4th one, is if you can create great maps. Or more bluehat you could create hacks/cheats but I wouldn't advise ruining a great game.

Now I have this great idea on how you could turn a huge profit but it's kind of one of my dreams and it would be very competitive..

Justin, I'm a huge gamer too and have often wanted to crack the MTG
      gaming niche.

Problem is, for the most popular games, you're usually up against some stiff
      competition with some great products.

      Let's examine the niche generically.

      What do gamers want?

      1. Cheats (at the top so they don't have to work at it)
      2. Tips (for those who don't mind playing legit)
      3. actual product (for something like MTG collectible cards where they're sold
      in a secondary market)

For most games, 3 is out of the question unless you're a certified dealer
(such as with MTG) and can buy cards wholesale. Even then, the amount
of work in breaking down cards and selling them (usually on Ebay) is
      astronomical.

One and two are easier. But if you remember the old PC video games of
the past, most cheats are actually created by the company who made the
game itself, which is how they make backend income off of each game sale.

So what you need to do, ideally, is find a game where:

      1. You can sell tips and cheats that aren't readily available by the company.
      2. Product that you can create that is an addon to the game itself.

If you have something like that and already have a list of gamers of that
particular game, then selling is a matter of doing the basic PLF formula
(getting them all worked up over the upcoming launch, IOW...buzz,
going through the whole process) and then simply launching.

      It isn't rocket science.

However, if you don't have the list to begin with, then you have to first
establish a web presence as an authority on the subject, share some free
content including some tips and then slowly build a list (offering more content
to subscribers) and THEN complete the PLF process.

It's an extensive process and doesn't happen overnight. But if you have
something that people want, you'll do well.

That's the key. Can you come up with a product that is relatively certain
      to sell?

If I was creating an MTG product, I would have to target it to new players
because the pros and advanced players don't need tips on building decks,
      playing, etc.

So you have to know WHO your market is.

This is actually something I'd consider doing with you if for no other reason
than I'm bored to death with semi retirement.

But you'd need to show me a solid product idea based on market research
that has a better than decent chance of selling.

Do that and we might have something. That is of course if you're interested.

Naturally, it would also depend on what the game is. Some games I have
no interest in or knowledge of and have no desire to learn. But if it's
something that interests me (I've always wanted to learn WOW even though
that market is saturated) then I'd consider it.

Having said all that, the gaming industry is tough to break into as a
developer and a lot easier to tackle as an affiliate. The product is already
proven to sell. Simply give YOUR customers something that they can't
buy anywhere else (bonuses with REAL value)

Anyway, shoot me a PM if you're interested. And of course if you want to
keep the niche secret I understand. I'm here if and when you want to chat
      about this.

But make sure there is a market BEFORE you start coming up with product
      ideas.

Is a similar product already being sold? If not, maybe it's because there IS
      no market.

My 2 cents on the subject.
